Kirstie Allsopp’s home truths!

The housing market may be all doom and gloom, but TV’s favourite property expert Kirstie Allsopp is bucking the trend for pessimism with a new mantra: ‘redecoration, redecoration, redecoration’

Even during an economic downturn that you might have thought would put a full stop on the property boom that turned her into a celebrity, Kirstie is madly busy.

Along with the punishing schedule of her property programmes and her work with the Conservative Party (she is an adviser on housing issues), she has yet another new role, on the design board of the interactive interior design website mydeco.com, a site that aims to revolutionise the way we design and shop for our homes.

Kirstie - "You'll photoshop me down to a size 10 right?"

I think with the housing market now in freefall with nothing to stop it, I find these two characters figures of fun, to ridicule, poke fun at, rather than be angry or frustrated with anymore.

There mantra that was probably taken seriously over the passed 6-7 years has been squashed out of existence.

I have to agree. their credibility has been shot to bits. now, it's mildly entertaining to watch their increasingly-desperate attempts to shore up their careers.

it will be interesting to see how conservative housing policy shapes up, if indeed the party is naive enough to take any of kirsty's 'advice' on board.

her mantra should surely be 'privilege x 3'. her background never seemed to harm her career chances.

Man are you lot out of it, their credibility may well have been shot to pieces here and on HPC, but to the general population they are still heroes.... or at least good tv watching. You obviously didn't hear them being interviewed on R1 last month.
Their tv and other careers are no way near over.

This is the age of celebs, that little fact that they can't do anything, doesn't come into it.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

the ratings for the next series will determine their future careers.

plenty of meejah predictions that the age of celebs is coming to a close.

Spot on there! Low ratings will be the only thing that stops these awful programs!

I hope the fashion police are not watching this thread they may well arrest her for her bad tastes in clothes
  • I genuinely do not understand the Conservative Party employing her as a "housing issues advisor".

Why? She called the boom/bust spectacularly and publicly wrong, even going as far as to say she'd "eat her hat" if property prices fell.

She has no education, no proper knowledge beyond her vested interests and is completely out of touch with what's going on for real people. What possible benefit can she bring to the Conservatives?

I can only assume that in this celebrity worshipping culture we now inhabit, the Conservatives feel that her "celebrity presence" will lend some sort of credibility in the minds of the easily impressed (which is a huge swathe of the population).

But surely for any right thinking person this is just a massive negative? I'd find it hard to take seriously a party that considers dear Kirsty a credible advisor on anything just because she's been on telly, innit?

    Bizarre.
