Problem with Nectar Points at Sainsbury's?

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone else has had problems redeeming their nectar points at sainsburys?

For some reason the cashier thought it wasn't registered, when it definitely is and I've redeemed points there before.

Interestly, the receipt no longer says how many points I've already got...only that my account will be credited with some points.

And checking my points statement on the nectar website shows that no sainsbury's points have been credited throughout december.

would anyone be able to check a recent sainsburys receipt? anyone have the same issue?

i've called nectar and the guy said he'd "refresh" my account, but no idea if that will make a difference.

I rarely shop at Sainsbury anymore - too far away and not cheap enough for my meagre budget!! but I know that it used to say that points would be added when you shop at a store that isn't your "home" store - I don't know if this is still the case?

I've never tried to redeem points at Sainsbury since they changed their method though, I'm sorry....
Probably not much help - but i'm sure that someone will be able to help!
Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??

  • Hmm...how do they know what your "home" store is? I applied for the nectar card online and used it with no problems near home before I went to uni and then at uni too. Since I've been back home from uni for the xmas break...it doesn't work at sainsburys :S

Strange. (Note: it has successfully added the nectar credit card points)
  • I would give it a day or two and then check your statement again.

I find if I shop at my "home" store, my points total is adjusted immediately on the receipt, but not on my online Nectar statement.

If I go to a different Sainsburys store the receipt never reflects the correct balance.

If its still not showing after a day or two, I'd contact Nectar.

it can take upto 30 days for point to show up on your account, I've had a nectar card for years and a Sainsburys just opened up a few months ago and i've been picking up points fine.

Watch though, the cards tend to be a bit fiddly when running through the swipe machine, some times I've had to run it through 3 or 4 times for it to be recognised (Think it's the card readers they are using! since it's fine in other stores!).

If you go to the customer service desk at Sainsbury's and tell them that you have a problem with Nectar, they will call them for you, free of charge.

I work for sainsburys and I know why it won't let you redeem points, its not because its not your "Home" store. The tills don't contact the main Nectar server everytime a Nectar card is scanned. Instead the store itself holds the nectar details of its customers on its own server. For your details to be stored on this server you need to have shopped at that particular store within the last 6 months. If you haven't shopped in the store within the past 6 months then your details won't be stored on the stores server and therefore we won't know your points balance. When you next make a purchase in that store your details will be added back to the stores server within 48hrs and then you will be able to redeem points at that store.

You will still get points added to your account even if you haven't shopped in that store within the past 6 months they just get done as one big batch.

happened to me too and as helix says
you have to have shopped in that particular store
in the last 6 months (although i thought it was 3)

you could buy something really small using your card
and go back a couple of days later and it should work.
  • Ahhh! Excellent, thanks very much! :)

It's true that I haven't shopped there in quite a while lol
