I'm engaged!

Hello all, I posted some time ago about picking an engagement ring on this board. I had thought I'd never see the ring again but OH finally proposed and we are now engaged! He has stated he will get married within 2 years...but I'm all for next year!
I quite fancy getting married on Friday (haven't broached the subject of the actual wedding with OH yet, he is still trying to get over the engagement :rotfl:) so this is making availability easier. I would do my own invites, I'd know someone who would do the cake so that is 2 cheaper items and the organised team of helpers have said they'll do the nighttime buffet for us, and I know a DJ for the disco. So really its just the dresses, the venues, the church and the cars to organise. Trying to do it as frugally but lovely as possible.
What is your best advice?

Yes it can be done - truth be known it takes 240hrs to organise a wedding from start to finish including arranging transport, church, venue etc etc.
At the top of this board there is a sticky called wedding plan on there you will find a listing of what to do and when to do it.
Maybe you should perhaps think about finishing the house renovations first and then you will have more time to enjoy the planning and the day itself.

Congratulations!
We got engaged in July and have wedding booked for may next year! Was planning on July but couldnt get the dates we wanted at our venue so went for may bank hol sunday.
Like you I have a friend making the cake, and was going to do the invites myself but ended up getting some cheap in tesco! I have a friend doing the flowers as well.
I found the first month or two after getting engaged quite stressful (but in a nice way!) but once that was over I found I'd booked pretty much everything so been able to relax! I'll have to start again in Jan with things like mens suit and young bridesmaids dresses.
I'm so glad we're doing it quickly - am far too excited to wait and think that would actually make it more stressful for me!Mummy to Thomas born April 27th 2010 8lb 5oz0 -

Has anyone planned a wedding in 8-10 months? Is it do-able? I should add we are in the middle of renovating a house as well so I'm sure my OH will say its all too much for next year...but I think we can do it (I have a team of organised family waiting in the wings!) . In hindsight what would you do? Would you try and organise it that quickly or are you thinking I'm mad for wanting it so soon....?

congratulations hunny. best advice would be to spend as frugally as possible, as it may not last. Recessions are renowned for destroying relationships. I notice from your previous posts you have just purchased a HOUSE on MORTGAGE. I could rant about the foolishness of this all day, but wont. Are you sure he just does not want a secure grap on any future equity? I would..We organised ours very quickly and cheaply so it can be done!;)
.....And congratulations!!!!:j
....sounds really classy

ahh thanks for all the replies! well maybe 9 months is long enough to plan a wedding then!!! i think there will be some financial help from the family which is great, but again I dont want to spend a fortune on things that can be done cheaply but nicely. I will take a look at the top post and Im sure I'll be around on this board in the coming months!
I thought about having the daytime wedding and reception on the friday somewhere beautiful with very close family and friends and then having a good old knees up party on the saturday night and invite everyone we want. Anyone else split their wedding over 2 days???
punkstoner - thanks for the concern re: the house. It was an absolute bargain, exactly the sort of thing we've been waiting years for, didn't overstretch at all on the mortgage (did it on one wage) and are really happy! (Just cant wait to pay the mortgage off now
) The house isn't for a re-sale or anything, its for us to live in..not sure that was clear from my post

We're planning to get married in early 2010.The only thing i'm thinking of booking well in advance will be the reception venue and the Registry Office. How does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -
