  • Days to get through until payday: 5.

    Money in Bank: £54.83
    Money in Purse: £1.36
    Grand Total: £56.19

Spends from 1100 Saturday to 1000 Sunday: £32.23
    £3.40 Weekly Paper Bill.
    £26.33 Grocery Money.
£2.50 for a McDonalds for DS2 (not right impressed with this one, cos DH asked if he could 'borrow' some money until he got back from football so I said he could, then he said 'well it's for a McDonalds for DS2 for after football so I'm not borrowing it really. If DS2 had asked me for McDonalds money I would have said no, but DH was in a foul mood so I didn't want to quibble over £2.50. I'm going to go waaaaay over my 'everything else budget' anyway this week so £2.50 wont make much of a dent in it!

Grocery Budget: Was £65.00. Is now: £26.43
Petrol Budget: Was £55.00. Is now: £0.00
Entertainment Budget: Was £25.00. Is now £25.00
Everything Else Budget: Was £22.86. Is now £4.76

Luxuries money: £64.99 on a 1TB external hard drive for my music as I've lost a lot of space due to having tonnes of music on there. This was paid for on my Tesco CC but I have transferred the money for it over from the emergency / luxury items fund.

It's typical isn't it. When you do a full shop, you look at your trolley at the end of it and think "Yep, that looks around £65" only to find it's about £80. So yesterday I looked at my trolley thinking "Yep, easily £30 worth of stuff there so I can get £5 off my shopping" only to find that it only came to £28! I ended up having to buy six first class stamps to get it to £31+. I don't think stamps are meant to count towards the £30 however but luckily it was a young assistant and I don't think she realised as she let me have the discount.

Also, did a tentative budget for Nov/Dec and it was with glee I discovered that I actually get two lots of child benefit money so things aren't that dire as I expected!

Oooh extra CB will come in very handy. Have just agreed to spend Christmas at my parents for the first time in over a decade. Hoping this bout of total insanity is temporary. My step-mother has an OCD shes obsessed with cleaning and polishing and gets stressed if things deviate from her precision planning whilst I on the other hand go with the flo. I forsee the OH and my father being pickled by lunchtime.

Everything else budget: Was £22.86. Is now: -£13.24

Luxuries Money: £85.55 on a new shower. Ours only runs lukewarm water even on boiling hot highest temp so it's time for a new one. Luckily next door neighbour is a sparky so he's gonna fit it for free, but DH has to fix his computer which is knackered..

I asked my friend at work if she thought I would have enough with £25 for the curry we are going for on Friday and she said: "more than enough" and as I don't need any groceries before I get paid although I have gone over budget on everyday money, hopefully I should have a surplus in my entertainment / groceries to cover it.

I even turned down a breakfast butty this morning. I hope FF doesn't mind me pinching her phrase: "because I need to be an iron-willed budgeteer". I'm looking forward to my five-week month challenge, which starts tomorrow. I'm definitely going to be over my budget though for this month sadly but hey, not bad for a first proper attempt eh?

Days to get through until Payday = 0 (YAYYYY)
    Money in Bank = -£14.17
    Money in Purse = £12.05
    Grand Total = - £2.12

    Spends from 1600 Thursday to 0520 Friday = £29.10
£14.00 cheque for DS2 cubs subs
£15.10 at Indian Restaurant for Meal.

Under Budget for Groceries by £26.43
    Bang on Budget for Petrol
Under Budget on Entertainment by £10.00
Over Budget on Everything Else by £38.55

The meal last night was fantastic. I couldn't eat even half of it, so have brought it home in a takeaway tub and having it for lunch today omnomnom!

Don't think I have done too badly this month to say I only started budgeting 11 days ago so for three weeks I've had a spending free-for-all! Only finished a couple of quid over which was due to me somehow missing a week's worth of money out of the purse for the kid's activities, not to mention subs for cubs and football after the half term break. If it hadn's been for those I'd have had a lovely PLUS figure!

Have done this month's budget and transferred the money over to my HSBC account, and also used some of the emergency money to pay off my overdraft. I was scared of doing it in case DH was made redundant but it's silly paying interest on the overdraft, and I can see at a glance if the balance isn't zero by the day before payday then I have miscalculated. I guess if I need it I can always dip back into it.

    Thanks for listening

ARRGGGHHH I cannot get my figures to balance for this month!!!

    Money in = £ 2481.01
    Money out = £1666.08
    Leftover = £ 814.93

Transferred over to HSBC = £814.93
    Yesterday's debit balance = - £14.17
    Money leftover = £800.76
    Money in purse = £12.15
    Grand Total Available = £812.91

    Monthly Budget
    Groceries = £300
    Petrol = £137.50
    My bus pass = £56.00
    Kids Activities = £96.00
    Everything else = £223.41

Spends from 0500 Friday to 1900 Friday
    £55.00 Petrol
    £ 0.76 (2 x packets of sweets)
    £ 3.00 (collections at work 40th, 50th & a leaving gift)
    £ 1.00 (lotto)
    £ 0.60 (pepsi max)

    Actual Money remaining in bank = £659.00 + £12.15 in purse = £671.15

    Budget remaining after Day 1:
    Petrol: Was £137.50 / Now £82.50
    Groceries: Was £300.00 / Now £300.00
    Everything Else: Was £223.41 / Now £232.65
    Bus Pass: Was £56.00 / Now £56.00

I'm sure this is wrong as I keep adding up to having £14 more than I should have (hence my everything else budget going up) so I might have to do some adjusting once I figure out where it has gone.

Emergency / Luxury money = DS1 lost his door key, which he had put in a wallet with his bus pass which unfortunately had his address on it. I phoned the crime prevention department to see if they could recommend a locksmith for a quote and after a chat he convinced me that even if the key turns up, we could do with some new door locks. Cost £120.00. And the bus pass turned up....with the key....sods law!!!
