Hi all, I'm 24. As you can see from the signature, I've made it!! (Apart from my student loan which isn't really "bad debt" anyway.) When I was a student, I rinsed my student overdraft, credit cards, bought things on "Buy now pay in 9 months" (and never paid), bought a car on hire purchase (then it got written-off), etc, etc. You name it, I did it. Thankfully, I was able to get organised when I got my first grad job and it's taken 2 years. I'm hoping to start to save for a house soon (I live in Berkshire, so I'll be saving until I'm 50!! It's official, the one place that's not seen a reduction in house prices!!).

Great idea for a thread and good luck to all.

  • I'm 22.

My only debt is my ~£6k student loan but using DFW methods, I'm hoping to grow my savings at a faster rate than the interest is added to my loan :)

My OH is 24 and his debt was a loan taken out to buy his car.

Hiya im 19 (oh is 20) and we have £700 of debt and NO SAVINGS! We have a baby on the way in Feb (not planned but definitely wanted :D), 3 large dogs and a rented house that i hate as it costs too much to heat :( and there is damp in the kitchen and back bedroom

My plan is to get debt free and successfully stay out of my overdraft! Save for my childs future, aiming for £20 a month to start AND saving for our very parculiar family to either move rented or stay put a while longer and get on the property ladder.

This is going to be hard as i am on minimum wage until Jan then on Maternity so just OHs wage but his job isnt very secure at the moment :( which is poo! But im sure with all the support on here we can do it :)

Lol i wasnt meaning anyone older than 25 couldnt be included!!!

I just picked an age out of the air really, this is the age the young parents group i go to cuts you out as being classed as a young parent so went with that!

Shocked 25 year old here, realising that he too is old :p

Just kidding, but I did have my lbm as a 21 year old student, so I'm still counting myself as a young dfw.

On one hand it's terrible to have problem debts at the ages that some of the posters here do, but on the other hand it's incredibly formative. Think - if we were silly at a young age we'll probably be very wise in older age..

I've already thought about how I'm going to train my kids (who haven't been conceived yet!) about managing their money. I know how sad that sounds, but I also know how miserable debts can make us.

That happens to me too! If I shave I reckon I pass for 18-19 :o Never mind, I'm sure I'll appreciate it in another five years or so..
