not trying to be HPI, but some (if not a majority) women want to work at least part time after having a baby. So dual income faimliys will generaly price out single income familys.
Saddly a fact of life in a modern society.

In Aus they pay well over a hundred quid a week and up to 150 for a mother to stay at home until the kids are 6 if she wants to.

The taxpayer also funds (I think) 20 hrs pw childcare if you're not working and 50 hrs pw if you are.
  • Sounds great, the State doing this and that...

But, it just means the tax burden has to be higher, so the main earner works their socks off to maintain lifestyle, or the stay-at-home parent has to go out and earn some part-time cash, anyway.

It defeats the object of letting them stay at home, over the long term...?

Better, surely to limit mortgages to 1 salary, so there is no pressure on prices from the dual-income households. A mother can choose to stay home because its not financially necessary to go out to work - or have a career, or do a bit of both, as the fancy takes them.

The household might think they want HPI, to pay for their retirement, but if they both desire to have careers, then the second salary can go into pension/savings - which, in this alternative universe, would perform relatively better than BTL, naturally taking the heat out of HPI further.

Govt set limits on pension contributions, ISAs etc, why would it be so impossible for Govt to make it law for Mortgages to be 90% or less, or a 4x multipler maximum or any other limit that might be appropriate, including measures to counter the effects of BTL by multitudes...?

Radical I know. But other than individuals' self-interest, what so great about HPI?

Their taxers are lower than ours, although they did use to be higher.

My sister is in Oz and she said they don't have things like Tax Credits, so that should reduce their tax bill. Only the single working parent can claim our type of tax credits, but a full time cleaner would be over the limit to claim, plus they have to put in the welfare claim every week with proof of what they earned the previous week. She said they make it a chore to claim, to encourage people to work and look after their own families.

Parents have to pay a top up for each child at school. My sister use to pay A$40 each term per child. If your children need glasses or dental treatment, in Oz the parents pay for them. Non emergency operations such as knee operations, are not covered by their health system and people have to take out private cover for their families.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

A collapse in the housing market will do no-one any good, I don't understand why you can't see this?

I'll think you'll find it will benefit many people....as in you can actually buy a house without being mortgaged up to your eyeballs....and maybe people will start to live within their means....but that is a maybe

It would certainly benefit me....it just won't benefit people who are already mortgaged beyond their means
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right

Rubbish. It will do a lot of people a lot of good.

And other people a lot of harm.
