Most golf shoes are waterproof, only cheap ones aren't really. £30 is a fair budget and should be doable. If you go into a golf-shop on a course they will usually have a sale on or you can haggle prices...don't think Ive ever paid full price ina golf shop!

I've been a golf pro for 12 years now and in my experience the cheaper end of the market (sub £40) does offer up some decent deals. My advice would be go for a recognised golfing brand, Hi-tec, Etonic and Stuburt all do some good inexpensive shoes but make sure they have leather uppers, synthetic shoes will just lead to sweaty feet!
Usually you can get some good prices online or at you rlocal pro shop/golf superstore on close out models. At this time of year all shoe manufacturers are moving onto their 2009 ranges and as a result you cant get reductions on the outgoing styles. Post the names of any shoes that you have seen and I'll give an impartial opinion.0 -
Thanks, I've been looking at these ones:

Those ones have a synthetic upper which means sweaty feet when it comes to the summer. I've had a quick look for an alternative and have found these:

We used to stock these and found them a good shoe when we sold them, and at half price they are a steal. Leather uppers so more breathable and fully waterproof. They do take a few rounds to break them in as the sole unit is quite stiff to begin with but tell your Dad to wear them around the house and down to the driving range before venturing out on the course and he shouldn't have any problems. Only a few sizes left so if they aren't going to be suitable let me know and I'll see what else is out there.0 -
