Question about credit file and items 'dropping off'

Hi
I need some advice about my credit file. I'm desperate to try and get it to a 'good' standing as I'm going to have to re-mortgage early next year
I understood that items dropped off your file after six years, doing some research on the net a lot of people think that is seven years. Also, when does that start from? I have something that is
Account start date: 28th March 2000
Account closed on 11/09/2002
When does that mean it 'drops off'?
Any advice is gratefully received.
Thanks

I would give them a ring to see what is happening with it. Sometimes it seems to come off automatically on the day but other times i'm not sure if it requires manual intervention. They may do this at the end of the month or something, but there is no harm in asking. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0
Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/20110 -
I'm not 100% certain, but I think the finance institutions update the credit reference agencies once a month - although, having said that, you would think that that one would have gone by now!0
