Public Warned about Dental Tourism
Organisers of the Health Tourism Show 2008 claim the credit crunch is making people more reluctant to shell out for expensive dental treatment in the UK and more adventurous about seeking a cheaper option abroad. They claim that the shortage of NHS dentists in Britain means dental treatment overseas is getting increasingly popular because it is cheaper than the UK.
However, Britain’s leading oral health charity is warning people to be cautious over these ‘dental tourism bargains’. People thinking of travelling overseas for dental treatment are being urged to shop around in Britain before going abroad.
British Dental Health Foundation chief executive Dr Nigel Carter said:
‘The Foundation recommends patients thinking of travelling for their treatment to keep their eyes open to potential pitfalls.
’The BDHF, working on behalf of the public since 1971, recommends patients shop around in the UK before considering travelling abroad. Cash plans, maintenance schemes and capitation plans can all help make UK dental treatment more affordable.'
The General Dental Council (GDC) recently issued guidance and advice to dental tourists, with a checklist of questions to ask before travelling abroad for treatment.
The aim of the checklist, produced in association with BDHF is to help dental patients make informed decisions about their dental care, wherever they receive treatment. For the guidance, go to https://www.gdc-uk.org

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.
