Being chased by Grolier/DCA's

Earlier this year - Feb/March I think, I signed up for the Grolier offer to get my niece some Disney books free, then they would send 2 every month and if you kept them you paid £9 roughly. So she got the first lot and the £9 was taken from my credit card but then I emailed them to cancel it and no further books were received. However they have been chasing me since for £9. All the letters have been going to my dads because that's where my niece was living at the time.
I know I should have dealt with this before now
So I've just collected all the many many letters from my dads and the amount they are chasing for has gone up to £21.78
I've got letters here from CCS Collect, Wescot Credit Services, Nelson Guest and Partners Solicitors. The most recent letter being from Wescot Credit Services on the 1st October.
I've got a letter again from Wescot on the 15th August saying it's a final notice and if I don't pay within 14 days they MAY lodge a summons at Hull County Court and saying the amount I owed then was £51.78. I'm guessing they decided not to proceed with the court summons as the amount has gone back down to £21.78 and there is no court summons.
What I don't get is, if they did send me another lot of books out, why didn't they just charge me credit card like they did the first time? Why did they just send me an invoice? Bit confused about that.
Anyway my question is - what do I do now?? How can I get rid of this without paying them and how can I stop them writing to my dads? The last thing I want is baliffs knocking on my dads door!
I know i'm so stupid for letting it go on this long but want to get it sorted now

Hi have you phoned them up to tell them that you paied and that yiu have not had any more books off them?
You might need to do this and then get a stament from your cc card company from the month that thay had the money from. And fax a copy off or seend one in the post to them to prove that you have paid.
I would not pay them any more money!! Why should you you have paid and ypu can prove it!!
Give them a ring and have a go at them over this. Thay are in the wrong not you.
all the best Good luck:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
Hi Hayley, ring your credit card Co and tell them. They could well get in touch direct with Grolier, if not they will give you a copy of the statement. then you can tell them to get stuffed.

I'm not sure I can contact Egg as I owe them money and i'm hoping to go into a DMP with them so not sure they'd be that helpful. I should be able to get it offline though so will try that.
I think I will ring Grolier direct and ask them firstly how many books they sent out after the first free lot and if they say one then I know that i've definitely paid it and i've got proof but if they say they sent another one then i'll ask for proof.
There's no way in the world i'm paying it though, they can do what they like, I don't mind paying for debt I owe but no chance i'm paying for something I didn't ever receive or already paid for.
Thanks xx:heart: Think happy & you'll be happy

I just found my email from Grolier for the original order and it was from October 2007  Wow no way did I think it had been that long! I checked my Egg statements and they only go back as far as Nov-Dec last year so it's not on their
Going to have to contact Egg now, i'll just do it in writing. Even if I owe them money and i'm not paying it at present, they still have to send me a statement if I ask for one don't they?
I ado have my email confirming that I wanted to cancel the subscription and not to charge my account.
I'll ring Grolier on Monday and see what they say about it all. Think happy & you'll be happy
