BBC News story on people increasingly overpaying their mortgage. I think the BBC recycle this story from time to time, but still, it's good to see more and more people reducing their reliance on credit.

Hello lovinsavin, have just transferred some of mine to M & S which seems as safe as (???) houses. I printed off their forms on the web and filled out the details of the previous, now low-interest-bearing, accounts and one is already back after only about 10 days. Like you I am a lover of Premium Bonds and whilst my head tells me no, my heart tells me they are much more interesting than the piddly-diddly savings accounts. I am just off to check my numbers online...........0

Sorry for the incredibly late post but my total for March is £305. I am hoping to start paying a bit more soon since I'm figuring there's probably not a lot of point in paying into my ISA any more
Glad to hear you're all doing well...

I'm a happy bunny. My rate dropped from 4.99% to 2.5% on the 1st, so halving the rate at which interest is added. I have also managed to overpay £58.73 so far this month, with plans for another £104. And probably more as money becomes a bit clearer as the month progresses.
Isas are both full, and DS2's yearly CTF limit has been met. My savings account is significantly reduced at the minute, but i don't see the point in leaving a lot in there at 1% when i know i can quickly put what i took out back now i am at work again. I will build it up a bit more than it is but i think i am just going to start saving a monthly amount towards the bigger bills like xmas, hols and car insurance like i used to.
The picture is starting to look a bit clearer to me anyway.0 -
Hi folks. Slow reporting my OP for this month, sorry!
Managed to overpay £500 again despite the expense of a new boiler. Luckily we had known this was coming and were able to prepare for it.
Next month will be tighter as our dishwasher has just died and needs replacing, among other things. The budget so far doesn't have us paying the full £500 next month, but hopefully we can improve that over the next few weeks!
Well done to everyone again this month :T

Hi,
No 181 checking in for April. OP this month is £503.08, making total OP this year to £1943.57. I might have to stop for a while when I reach £3000 as I will need to fill my ISA allowance. My current mortgage rate is 0.78 % and I can get more interest in an ISA, By my calculations (always a bit dodgy) I should have reach that by July. I will Pm Zavarony with an update.
Thanks everyone for keeping me motivated.

Hi everyone, just popped in to update my sig. Regular payment went into the account on Friday and mortgage is now sub £30k for the first time in nearly thirty years! It's all thanks to the inspiration I get from you folks that I have been able to focus and really work on getting this debt shifted. Thanks to you all from the bottom of my heart!
Good luck everyone and don't give up - every little bit helps!

Well done!
(my negative equity is about that mark :eek::eek: so we've got the same target:D)
Here's my April update (also PM'd Zavarony):
154. Cake21 - £7311 / £400 / £4442
I won't be making another overpayment this month - my mortgage interest rate is now lower than my student loan interest rate (I have an old, mortgage-style loan unfortunately!) so I'll be throwing any extra at that to get it down. I'd really love to pay it off a year early, i.e. December 2009 rather than December 2010. Hopefully writing it down here will make me more likely to do it :j0 -
Evening everyone.
Another £30.00 in on the 1st April, bringing my total to £120.00 I'm hoping to improve the amounts later on in the year! But at this stage, every little helps! I have a Mortgage Moo to open in April, think it'll only be a fiver, but maybe it might have reached £10. I put loose change in it when I remember and it's been a year! Might have to be a bit more structured this next year to increase the amount... any ideas?!
Will pm you with the figures Zav
