    Hey Zav :)

Already started a 'diary' thread, but time to become an official MFW too, methinks!

Currently about 20 months into a 5 year fixed rate 90k mortgage (and therefore just a little miffed on missing out on the interest rate cuts, but heigh-ho!), already overpayed about 2k on that so far at £150 a month. I'm aiming to at least continue that this year, which gives me a minimum overpayment target of £1,800 for 2009.

Thanks for doing all this! :T

  • another £50 standing order went out today:D
  • Ok, it is time I went official here as well. Been overpaying the mortgage for around 3 years now but need to step up the amount this year and take advantage of these low interest rates. I have an outstanding amount of £82,000 and we would like to overpay by £9,000 this year which should end us very close to £70k by the end of the year when our actual repayments are also taken into account. So please add me to the challenge and good luck to all.
So far: Council Tax downgrade success and £1,000 refund | Mortgage redemption refund £25.00 | Lightspeed £65.00 | Pigsback £30.00 | Quidco £130.00 | Topcashback £405.00 all courtesy MSE

  • Hi Zav,

It's finally time that I stopped lurking and joined the 2009 MFW challenge. I have been inspired by the posts on this board and have already been overpaying in 2008.

My current outstanding mortgage balance is £52,268 and I have set an OP target for 2009 of £16,000. My current MFW target date is 01/07/11. This will be when I am 41. I had hoped to be mortgage free before I was 40 but my LBM came too late!!

Thank you Zav for organising this challenge and good luck to everyone with their targets.

    Hi there Zavarony:hello:

Would you please add my name to the list of MFW?

Coincidently I have just contacted my lender to arrange overpayment (unfortunately this shall not start until Feb though as I have to put the request in writing)

Anyhoos....if you could please put me down for £1100 (OP by £100 per month). I think my outstanding amount is circa £76K, with approximately 20 years to go....eeeek!!

    Muchos gracias

  • Hi Zav

Can you add me to the list please?

Currently half way through a 5year fixed rate with Northern Rock on a 82k property (74k mortgage, 8k unsecured loan) so aiming to get rid of the unsecured element by the end of 2009. Have already set up overpayments of £500 a month and will make additional payments as and when.

Need to get that LTV down before Feb 2011 when it comes to remortgaging. Need all the motivation I can get.

Well - bit the bullet and paid £8,000 off today!! Thats our savings from last year and takes our mort down to around £47,000 :) Planning to arrange £500 a month overpayment in feb - just waiting to confirm finances for 2009 before setting it in stone - plus we need to buy some baby things this month (new baby due feb). Feels good so far though!!

  • I really want to increase my OP from 2008 (currently £150 per month). As it stands if I continue to OP at this rate we have 10 years left exactly, we're both 38.

Just been playing with the mortgage calculator - blimey, the thing's addictive. If we increase our OP even by just £35 a month to £185, it brings the mortgage term to 8yrs and a few months.

Doesn't that sound better? Not sure whether to bite the bullet or not as also saving for a family holiday to Florida for October 2010.

Things aren't that tight...but then neither are they that flush either.
