Brought most of my tender perennial plants into the greenhouse, but I don't usually do that until mid-November. Unfortunately, one of them has turned into a tree, so it will die when the harder frosts arrive. It's a Paraserianthes lophantha, which is basically like a eight-foot sensitive plant, but it doesn't droop when you poke it. As it seeded, I'll grow another.

Down here in Bath, we had thunder and hail. The greenhouse heater only kicks-in when it goes below zero C, but as I'm trying to reduce my carbon footprint, I'll try to use fleece & manage without.

To stay on topic, there are no houses for sale in my road. However, I'm still open to offers....

Frost got my banana plants. I knew I should have moved them closer to the house! No snow in the East Midlands as yet and plenty of houses for sale and going nowhere where I live.

I've just done that the lazy way and put the duvet from the guest room on our bed. I'll have to fix it soon though, as my in-laws are here next week and won't appreciate being left with just the sheets.

Well, if you want to get shot of them....

It's snowing in WC1 now, in a very wet kind of way. Not common in October.

We've got a good covering of snow here in Hertfordshire. You can always tell who's loft is not insulated - they are the houses without snow on the roof.

  • I can't remember ever seeing snow this time of year. Doesn't it usually happen jan/feb, if it does at all?

To stay on topic, I would pay a serious premium for a house that was energy efficient and really well insulated. I feel the cold terribly, although it is probably more terrible for my partner who has to listen to my whinging.
  • wow ndg, really? its not here in SW12, but the ground is damp so maybe I just missed some snow! think it was a good day to be off sick curled up in bed.

Well their house was "worth" about €3m at the peak, but since the crash started there's no real incentive.:D

Or did you just mean that in the more innocent make them go home way? :o
  • I meant, get them to go home!

We now have an inch or more of snow on the roads and pavements and cars in WC1. Very unusual in October, I'd have thought.
