External DVD writer & Disc's

Options
I need to get one ASAP and I am not sure what I need to be looking at!!

Can any DVD discs work on any DVD writer?

What I need is a good quality writer that I can get home movies onto - Is it possible to get 3 hours onto one disc? (it was a long party:rolleyes: ) I wil probably need the max storage on a disc. I need to get the writer, discs, copy the movies and post them by next week so they get to family in time for Xmas  and I need to do it on a budget - so, it can't be too expensive and too slow:o

Any help, tips and links to bargain would be really appreciated .... Thanks!

If it is any help, I have some amazon vouchers and a £5 play.com voucher (but that runs out today

Thanks again!
I can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....

How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!

I thunk I've made you think for a minute!

Bought a Liteon from my local Maplins on Monday. Seems pretty good so far. Burns DVD at 16x and CD at 48x suporting both + and - format discs. On offer at £59.99 at the moment. If buying online it should be free delivery as its over £35.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks guys .... will check them out. there's one on Amazon for under £50, but someone mentioned in the review section that it doesn't work well with XP, which is what we have!

what's the + and - thing for or about :confused:

is it one that you can write on only once, and the other you can re-record data on it

probably a daft question right :o

Not sure what the + and - is for. It depends what your dvd player accepts. Some play both format, some either one or the other. +r/-r is write once and +rw/-rw is rewriteable. Hope that makes sense to you.

  • Try https://www.svp.co.uk for disks.

Worth signing up to their newsletter as there are regular incentives...

There are suggestions on what disks work with which players but most are for internal drives.
