I only got the work done on the NHS because I demanded a referral - I have never had an NHS dentist, I have always paid and my parents always paid.

Now that my dentist is a University dentist (he also teaches) then my teeth are in tip top condition - I have had some rogues in my time:mad: My current dentist referred me to City Hospital to have a skintag removed from my gum - it had developed on a scar after I was elbowed in the face by a fat german when I was on a ski holiday (I didnt ski), the lady who operated had already tried at the surgery but the thing grew back so I had to go and see her at the hospital - I was very brave because I am a complete scaredy cat:o

I would watch the dentist when he claims that you won't have to have any dental work for the next three years - he cannot predict that:eek:

After all that dental work I went to a rogue who used me to practice on and drilled healthy teeth to the point that I had just a shell so had to have gold crowns fitted by another dentist - it put me off dentists for life and it was only when I had a massive abscess that my colleague Ted (bless his soul) dragged me to his dentist which was the University one and I have been there ever since. The dental work I had done recently was after I chipped a bit off my front tooth and had it rebuilt.

Horace - he didn't say I wouldn't need any dental work - he said if I did need any dental work within the next three years he would do it free of charge!

Hey MrsP sorry to hear your news from the dentist. Your OH is right you need to get the work done and you should you need to look after yourself. Money is not everything. We will all get our debts cleared in time but there will always be things that come up that we need to do which may increase our debts but in the long run they are worth it.

Good luck with the tooth fund

    Buddiebabe - thank you.

I've had a really sleepless night worrying about my teeth (the pain involved) and the cost.

This is the game plan I've come up with so far:

I've cashed in £2000 of my premium bonds (leaving £600). I had always meant to cash in £1000. £1000 is to pay for our holiday in two weeks (can't wait) and to pay off my overdraft. The other £1000 is for my tooth fund.

Now, I am going back to the dentist next Friday and I will match my £1000 with £1000 from the CC and I will tell the dentist that at the moment I have £2000 and ask him to do the work in the order of the most important bits first that will start to benefit my teeth straight-away. He did say that he could do the work over a year and that is what I think will have to happen. I do feel a lot calmer now about it all, but still inclined to burst into tears.

Why oh why does it happen that you just see the light at the end of the debt tunnel and then something happens? I know its not just me, I have read other posters' stories of the same kind of thing happening to them.

Oh well, onwards and upwards (hopefully). I suppose I should be grateful that I had that bit of savings put away.

    Hi MrsP,

Just wanted to pop in and say hello. Sorry to hear about your teeth and the dentist. However, you are strong and there are people there to help, including all of us on here. I know what you mean about light at the end of the tunnel. You seem to be doing so well and them something goes wrong or something breaks, it is sod's law. But don't worry MrsP, you will win. I know you will.

    Take care

MrsP - your teeth and health are important - try not to fret about pain, ask for magic cream (I always do and have to have it applied before I get an injection) - I know I am a huge baby:o At least your dentist has said that you can have free treatment too:j - that's a bonus as they don't do owt for free normally:rolleyes:

Things happen as we are getting ourselves back on track - its murphy's law. You will get there - as we all will.

Tell me more about your mini clubman - does it have plenty of bootspace? I ask because I like going camping and like to carry a tent and assorted camping bits.

Horace - the Mini Clubman has lots of bootspace. There are what I call two secret compartments. You can lift up the bottom section of the boot to reveal another 6" or so depth and you can lift that up as well to reveal even more (it is the space where the spare tyre would go - it doesn't carry a spare tyre). You can also remove the parcel shelf and both back seats fold down. We have managed to carry loads in the back of it. I am really pleased with mine, its a diesel and I travel at least 45 miles every day round trip to work and it performs really well and is economical. The road tax is £35 per year:j It has that thingyume which means when you stop at traffic lights etc. the engine switches off and when you put your foot on the clutch it comes back on again! However, I find this really annoying in towns - where I live and work is very rural and in fact I only pass one set of traffic lights and they normally give me the "green wave" as I approach them so I often do my journey without stopping! I think you can turn this facility off if you live in a town though. I would throughly recommend the Mini Clubman.

Just checked out my credit card totals and found that there was a special offer on the MBNA for 0% interest till May 2010. I have used it. Therefore my totals are now:

Mint £4,300.01 (0% till February 2010 - will pay off £100.01 next week)
MBNA £3,528 (LOB £2,528 and 0% £1,000 - will pay off £35 next week as transfer will not have taken effect) - in future aim to pay off £100.

    Positives:

I've got bids on two of my Ebay items.

    Today is an NSD.:j

By next week I will not be overdrawn:j And its going to stay that way come hell or high water.

By next week my premium bond money will have come through and I'll have £1,000 in my tooth account - one fifth of the way already there

MrsP..what have you done? I have sent off for a mini clubman brochure so that I can have a look and I will arrange a test drive when I am legal again:cool: I wouldnt normally touch BMW with a bargepole (asset strippers) but the mini is made in Oxford so its English whereas my Yaris is made in France (I was horrified when I saw the made in france sticker on the windscreen when I bought it). You might think me a little bit touched but I refuse to buy French anything after they bombed the Greenpeace boat Rainbow Warrior:mad:

Horace - you have done the right thing! I love my Mini Clubman - in fact I hated the picture of it when I first saw it but when I saw it in the flesh I loved it to bits. I need to have a reliable car where I live as I need to get to work (to pay for the car):eek: I spent years with clapped out bangers throwing good money after bad. Its fantastic getting into a car and finding it starts first time without having to a) bang the starter motor with a hammer or b) pump the pedal:D

My DH also hates anything French but not for the same reason as you.
