I use the blender jug on my hinari food processor. I only use it for making caster sugar from granulated, or lentil flour from lentils or oatmeal from value oats, nothing more hardcore like nuts or grains though. It's just a plastic jug blender really, the whole unit is about 8 years old so you probably can't get the same model now.I use the processor part for breadcrumbs and blending soups. I have the KitchenAid blender, it's a deep red and gorgeous! It easily crushes ice and nuts, so I'm sure it can cope with anything. I use it all the time for soups, smoothies, even crumble toppings.Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

I have a KitchenAid blender and it grinds nuts easily - the only drawback is that it doesn't come with a seperate grinder attachment and so a few nuts/seeds always get suck around a the bottom of the blades and aren't processed at all.
It has a glass jug so sugar wouldn't cause scratching.0 -

It's really high powered, heavy duty blender that could easily do what you are asking.
the price is
The website is here...http://www.vitamix.com/household/products/super5000/maxnut.asp
Maybe you could try and get a second hand one?
I saw one of these last year at a show and have craved one ever since, but £400. Can't imagine ever feeling I could spend that much on a glorified food processor, but I want one soooo much.0 -
You lovely lovely people. :T
Right I spent yesterday looking at Vita-mixs, Blendtecs, Brauns, Sumeet Asia kitchen machines, and yet again Kenwoods and Krups online.
I am really grateful because now I don't feel like I'm buying blind.
So to summarise
Sumeet Asia kitchen machine = Sadly it has to be bought from overseas and info is limited.
Braun = Looks like a good solid thing but others look more HardCore
Kenwood = Lovely brand, they make great mixers but according to their own website their processors/blenders are simply not designed to do what I need.
Krups = Fantastic brand, good and solid but not enough info out there to prove their HardCore potential.
Vita-Mix = looks great again, it seems HardCore but UK support not looking as solid and the price tag is
Blendtecs = HardCore as heck. However poor UK support and a price tag that is  put this out of the running for me.
Soooooooooo
Bamix :bdaycake: it is then
Good UK support, a ten year guarantee and according to the Bamix people they encourage you to grind as much sugar, nuts and grains as you'd like.
HardCore for people who aren't squillionaires!
In fact I think that should be their next ad campaign.
Thanking you all and a special thank you to sooz, I had already discounted Bamix before starting this thread because their website has such limited info so without your input I wouldn't have taken a second look.
And hopefully this thread might help others in the future who like to push their food processors/blenders to the limit.

Update just to say I just got my Bamix,
people you haven't lived until you have eaten skim milk Bamixed into cream.
I'm actually eating air coated in milk it is so yummy.
It is actually the weirdest thing to eat air. It doesn't want to go down.
P.S. Sadly It managed to get two dents from the plug in transit but the milk coated air is helping me to cope with the trauma*Make every day Caturday*0 -
Hi Lilibeth and everyone else that may read this....
I'm looking for a blender myself as mine is useless. It doesn't blend hard veg or herbs etc.
I hadn't even though about getting a handheld blender as I didn't think these would be any good... it appears that most people are going for these now.
Any opinions?
Everyone seems to be very keen on Bamix.
Thanks!0 -
I have a little cheapo hand blender from Argos for doing soups and lumpy sauces, but anything more taxing goes into the liquidiser attachment of my Kenwood Chef. I haven't found anything yet that it couldn't handle. It's had nuts, sugar, ice, very cold chocolate straight from the fridge etc etc. I think it's fab.
Although now I want a Bamix just so I can have milk coated air!0 -
Another fan of the bamix, here. Bought mine early last year, and it's brilliant. I haven't needed to buy caster/icing sugar since. Just throw in the granulated and it's done in seconds. I've done ground nuts/seeds many times - love it0
