I've been really stupid

Guys i'm a old poster from a couple years ago with a new user name, there are a few local friends who know me using my old name and i'd rather this was private if thats ok.

Its a long time since i've been here :o My OH had a promotion and I started working more hours and due to help on here our debt was a manageable level, the cc's were clear, just one loan left and things were good. I could have thrown plenty at the loan to clear it quicker, but of course it was always going to be next month.

I've just had a real wake up call, due to the credit crunch my oh's wages have dropped dramatically this month and are set to stay that way and we have also lost our free company car. I had no idea how our bank balance looked, lots of unopened statements again, i've just looked how much i've put on my CC in just 8 weeks alone and i'm ashamed :o this smiley by no means covers how I feel. I really can't believe i've done this when I knew things were bad

I've just looked at our budget and i'm £150 a month short, i'm going to cancel the pet insurance for our 2 dogs before it gets renewed next week that saves £35 a month and hubby is going to have to put his pension on hold until things pick up...i'm going to have to tell him tomorrow. There is no way I can tell him how much is on the CC, he has been through this before and was so upset, he thinks i'm managing everything fine and has enough worry just keeping his job right now... I really can't believe I could be so stupid and keep making the same mistakes...how many lightbulb moments is it going to take :wall: I'm virtually back to square one

Sorry a real depressing, miserable post, but there is no one else I can tell. At least i've put the brakes on and pulled my head out of my backside, before it got worse.

So can I come back please and start all over again...

    Hey there,

I am kinda new on this board (lurker only!) but I just wanted to say well done for recognising that you were about to get yourself in a jam. You have stopped and thought about it and you are going to fix it with as much support as you need right here. Focus on the positive steps that you have taken and work from there.

btw your light is still on - you need sleep to think straight ;)

I am sure there will be loads of more suitable replies for you in the morning!

Is there any chance of getting a 0% card to transfer some of the CC debt onto? If so i would look at the Virgin money card or another with a low monthly minimum payment.

Might be worth posting up a SOA or at least a condensed version if you have put it up on your other name.
After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

    Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
    Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0

    Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/2011

  • Thanks both, I feel a bit lighter just writing it out. I couldn't sleep last night for worrying, I knew it wasn't going to be good when I added it up, but it is always easier when you know what you are facing and have a plan of action.

    Right to bed...see you tomorrow
  • Night night Twinkle, try and rest hun, Remember, not sleeping and fretting is not productive. Gets you no where chick. Pro-active is the way to go now. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Hi Twinkle,

Please don`t lose sleep Honey...remember `no debt situation is beyond solution`!!!

Write it down & that gets it out of your head & will allow you to sleep. Remember the `credit/debt crunch` is hitting everyone....only the brave dare admit it openly & subsequently can deal with it!! Well done!!

    Keep posting..

  • I'm not sure george tbh, OH is the main earner and I can't tell him right now. I hopefully have some money coming soon, it is taking alot longer than I thought though. OH did mention getting a new sofa etc with this money, I may have to come clean then that its going off the cc, its enough to clear one CC and our overdraft. Our budget will then balance at least.
  • Thanks you lovely peeps (((hug)))

There is something I really want to admit that I am so embarrassed about, i'm due to go for training next month to do voluntary work with people in debt :o This was agreed when all was well and good. Guys there is no way I can do this at the moment, they are paying for me to do it too. I'm going for a meeting about it Thursday so i'm going to have to tell them tomorrow that I can't do it right now.

    Hey You.

The best people to do debt advisory work are those who know the true extent of the problem. Please , Please don`t let debt hold you back from helping others!! You understand...I mean REALLY understand what others are going through & that will make you an even better debt councellor....true, heartfelt understanding is such a rare gift in this world!!

By all means delay if you feel its right but in this debt-crunch society we need people to advise who understand both financial & (more importantly)the emotional aspects of debt-crisis.

Twinkle ...anyone who volunteers ( in my world) is an absolute star!! well done Honey.
