Hey all,
Finished uni about 2 months ago, I was pleased about that. But this weekend I had a sort of breakdown. You see, I was going for a full time supervisor position in the retail store where I work and I think my brain balked. I don't want to work there for the rest of my life, it's so mindless and I need a lot more stimulation or I am gonna go crazy. Problem is that I have a c/c that's maxed out and wants paying, plus I only have a year left on my free O/D. Here is a SOA to give you guys an idea.
I am looking at getting a consolidation loan but I really can't afford a huge repayment each month until I find a full time job that doesn't send me loopy. But in other news I've been quit off the cigs for 2 and a half months.

Well done on kicking the habit.
Jobwise, you may need to settle for a job that you have no interest in for the short term - just to pay the bills and get rid of the debt. Just because you have that job does not mean you will be doing it for the rest of your life. Look on it as a stopgap. Taking time out to allow you to plan your career move and allow you to not worry about the debts.
Planning how to get into the job market in your chosen field and preparing for interviews should be enough stimulation for a while. You might welcome something a little mundane after a while. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Hello
Congrats on being smoke free! :T
As George says, you do need a larger income, and if that means getting a bit of a mindless boring job for the meantime, then that will have to happen. You need to get your debts down.
You can start looking at what sort of job you would like when you are earning a better income. Im not 100% happy with my job, its a bit repetitive but its very good money, and at the moment thats what i need.

Try registering with some temp agencies - you can earn good money especially if you can type. Ask for jobs that are temp to perm - its a good way of starting off and if you like the job then you know you will get a permanent contract out of it.
Remember no one needs to stay in a job for life these days, in fact it is frowned upon if you stay in a job for more than 2 years because the job market consider that if you stay for say 12 years that you cannot learn anything new and have no ambition.
Good luck, you will get there and remember do not consolidate.0 -
Thanks for the words of encouragement, I've been signed off for 2 weeks with stress at the moment. Going back home for a couple of weeks to see my parents. I will have a good long think about what I can do. If that turns out to be moving back home to ease money worries, then so be it.
I have a hip problem at the moment, so my current job is really unsuitable for it, but I have a interview soon as a full time civil servant, it's good money so I think I will be able to put up with the mind numbingness of it.
I just need some space at the moment, I think. I really did think I was cracking up over the weekend. Not an expert, but I try and contribute and I'll always listen. Middle child of middle child parents. I drink way too much coffee.

Give yourself a break and try not to be too hard on yourself. A stay at home with mum and dad may drive you mad but at least you can have a bit of tlc.
If your hip problem is permanent then have you thought about applying for disability living allowance?
Good luck for the civil service interview. Their jobs can be interesting especially if you work in places like the Foreign Office, MI5/6, Passport Office, Revenue & Customs. Think of jobs as a stop gap and at least with the civil service you can move around to different parts of it.0 -
It's with revenue and customs, data entry and the like. Really hope I get it coz I want out of retail and into admin. My CV is very retail heavy and I do not want to be in that industry for the rest of my life.
My hip problem is permenant, but I having tests to see if the current pain is reverseable with physio or not, if not then I will probably go for disabilty. Not that I really want to, I would like to carry on working if possible. Just not in Primark.
Somebody's signature had something about ebay in it, made me remember I have a sellers account. Just raided my book shelf and got 40 books to sell. Some first editions! I'm cheered up a bit now.Not an expert, but I try and contribute and I'll always listen. Middle child of middle child parents. I drink way too much coffee.

I would imagine that if you can get in with a big employer like HMRC that once you get in there will be other jobs advertised internally - even if you start in data entry, that doesn't mean you would be stuck in the same job forever. Good luck!
Oh, and remember to check Amazon marketplace for selling your books as well.0
