Many people who want cleaner usualy do either ironing by themselves or take it too an ironing company. It comes cheaper then hiring person for ironing as they have special ironing machines that saves time. So I suggest you try the advert for weekend cleaning. It's very easy to find work as a cleaner (I know that because I cannot find one so there must be HUGE people asking for them) and it's cash in hand. 5 years ago I also did it and people treated me realy well. You can pick who you want to work for as you find people are greatfull for help, especially ladies with tiny babies.
As Dancingfairy said, £300 for groceries is far too much. I spend about £200 for 2 people and that means steak once a week and fish once a week. And wine. Spag Bog, goulash or other saving meals for the rest of the week. Goulash is great because it lasts and my husband just loves it. I freeze the rest and he takes it out when I am away at the evening. Cost for 4 portions is about £6 (maybe £7, depends where you buy the meat).
  • Hita,

I really need to sort out a new signature!

  • Woohoo! We went to the dreaded Tescos last night and thanks to vouchers and budgeting we spent £37 for all of it! We made a list and stuck to it bar a couple of items. Am very pleased as it will make a big difference to what we have left this week. I'm registering for some temp (weekend) work on friday so we'll see what that brings up.

  • This sounds very much like myself a couple of years ago
I started a new job that paid slightly better than my last one
.... every lunchtime I was buying newspapers and magazines and crappy tesco's sandwiches and living on takeaways in the evenings with my G/F who had huge credit card bills & a loan eating up her spare cash.

We were both seriously overweight & skint and depressed all the time, it was madness looking back now...... believe me though, now you have made that step to do something about it, it snowballs BIGTIME,

I got a real bee in my bonnet because of the arguments we were having about money, so I got rid of my crappy car and walked everywhere for a few years, cut out the junk food and stopped buying mags and then sorted my disgraceful finances out.

Thats a good place to start though, review your accounts & be harsh on what you really need to be going out (I had two 'Advantage' accounts both charging me for stuff i didn't use and a subscription to a magazine that i never had time to read). I got rid of Sky tv also, I only missed it for the first week.
  • Ok so i am sticking within my budget so far for groceries and i'm doing the weekly shop tonight in sainsburys so hopefully won't over spend. We've downgraded our maintenance for our heating etc and it's now £14.54 cheaper per month. We're in credit by quite a lot for our gas and electricity accounts and now we'll be paying the bill quarterly we will be able to save and use any leftover funds for the bed account which is our most urgent debt to save for. Am feeling a little bit positive today so here's to hoping things improve from here onwards.

  • I'm doing ok with the not using my overdraft too much although due to a couple of necessary bills which i hadn't thouht of (ie petrol!) i'm overdrawn by £140 so that's not too bad for me! only 2 weeks until pay day. On the grocery challenge i'm within my target so far as i set it at £50 a week and have only used 73.41 in two weekly shops so i'm really pleased about that. We're also not wasting as much food either which is nice. Am wondering how often ebay do 5p listing days too, anyone know?
