Still haven't listed the wretched things on freecycle.
I have been busy trying to write an assignment on catering for my course - its driving me mad because its all about food - the couple in the case study have £4000 to spend on food and drinks and want an afternoon reception and evening buffet. It doesnt help that they don't know what their theme will be as they will base it around their food:rolleyes:
I have done research but be damned if I am going to include real names of suppliers within the essay because I don't want my tutor pinching them (she will have to do her own research).
I have started to put words on paper and will spend ages jiggling it around until its just right, I have copious notes too.
Oh and prawns don't feature anywhere in any of the suggested menus:j
Bloomin' eck is that the time? I need to think about making some dinner (maybe a Lidl pizza with added extra cheese, ham and herby derbies).0 -

100% Prawn-Free 'Fajitas' for us tonight - I can smell them from here, and mrs rog2 has just called me.

Well well, I see I have attracted a nasty little troll. I was going to respond but I won't lower myself.
re your business - I'm sure you know this but watch every penny you spend on advertising....it's a quick way to kill your cashflow....For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -
Bismarck - thanks for the advise - I won't be paying for any advertising just yet, it will be word of mouth and anything that I can scrounge for free.
Had a lecture from my OH last night - talk about being negative - still I will show him what for because I have my head screwed on. I know that he was lecturing because of his own incompetence when it came to his business but due to his family I am sure that he was just playing at what he did and therefore wasn't overly fussed about monies going out and monies coming in:rolleyes:
This business is a serious one and will be run like a tight ship. I am not looking at a business angel to take part of my business in exchange for some money - maybe when I am a limited company but not right now.
After much thought last night, I have decided not to go to the trade fair in Harrogate although I have registered to go so hopefully they will send me the show guide before the actual show so that I don't need to attend. Part of me wants to go but now I am thinking I may go on the train for the day or maybe not. (see how decisive I am:rolleyes: ). It all comes down to cost.
I am definitely going to Events UK on 16 September as it is closer to home and I have booked (and paid) to go to the National Bridal Show at the NEC in October.
Unfortunately, due to lack of funds I have had to get some stationery printed by Vistaprint - let's hope its ok.
My course is going well and I rang the Institute on Thursday regarding my assignments and how my tutor marks them - according to her all you need to set up a business is self-confidence, tact and to be assertive - my assignment talked about everything including the work that I am doing with the Chamber of Commerce as a good grounding for business. My tutor is inconsistent with her marking too and gave me a C+ for one assignment and yet was full of praise for my work - by giving me that bloomin' mark I am no longer on course for a diploma with merit but a plain old diploma. I have been advised that I cannot re-do the assignment:mad: I am determined with my other assignments to get As and Bs.
According to the Institute I am one of their best students because I have completed a lot of assignments in a short space of time and have the knowledge to back up the work that I have submitted:j
I am becoming devious too because my assignments have to use companies that I have researched so although I shall give actual prices in my forthcoming assignment, I shall make up a company name because I don't want my tutor gaining new contacts on the back of my hard work:rotfl:0 -
Hi Horace
Sounds like you've got a plan - well done! Further info on the advertising and the website. I've been self employed for over 20 years, and before we had a website (cos they weren't around back then!) me and my partner spent thousands on advertising. Now, the only spend we have is on the local Yellow Pages, and a few local shops where we put our leaflets. The website is enough, and its saved us an awful lot of money over the years. I wrote it and coded it myself too. I'd say one of the most important things is to get the search words right (yike, it was so long ago I can't remember what they're called, sorry. The words that google will search. I've just done it again now, and we're 3rd in the global listings, behind the wikipedia article and the original institute that carries out the same work. 1st on UK listings, and thats crucial. Hope this helps.
EDIT: keywords?2023: the year I get to buy a car0
