How's your OR?

Hi Everyone,

I'm soon entering the eighth month of my BR. Had one letter and a very short phone call up to now. Apart from that nowt. Of course, I'm hoping it stays like that until the 19th of December when I get an AD. I reckon I'm being looked after by the chap on the right.

Glad to have avoided the other two!

    Correct.

    I am in the smoke.
  • I am amazed at the letter the OR sends out to my creditors:eek:  all my debts in detail!

Had letters re BI and car exemption nothing more, but my contact seems to be changing...still sitting and waiting for final result!

  • After lurking on this site for what seems like a lifetime I decided to take the plange and go BR. Not an easy decision to make, but thanks to all the advice given through here a whole lot easier than it could of been.

I had my phone interview with the OR on Thursday, and OMG how much info does the guy need. Unfortunately my wife passed away back in december and this effectively has let me down a path of BR (I was her registered carer for 15+ years)

He was wanting to know what her illness was and what benefits we were recieving as far back as I could remember. In the end I asked how relevant this information was to him bearing in mind that the court had declared me bankrupt and that as far as I was aware his role was to look after the financial side of things. I have nothing to hide from the OR and am happy to talk to him about anything regarding finance.

In short I found the guy quite intrusive!

my OR was ok, I explained at the beginning of the interview I was ill and that I may ask for clarification or for them to repeat themselves as it dont always click first time round, he was nice enough and my BC was pretty straight forward, no assets claiming benefits etc, only took 20mins and I have not heard a peep from them since, but he did say I wouldnt hear anything and the process would move along without my input.
"Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

    Shrek,

The OR is duty bound to satisfy themself that you have not done anything reckless or illegal to contribute to your own BR, and that you have not stashed loads of cash away in order to ease your path through the 12 months of BR.

The likes of me and you are individuals with our own lifes, worries and woes. To the OR, we are just another case that comes across his desk to deal with. I am sure that OR's do not go out to purposfully upset and annoy us, it's just they don't get to see past the paperwork and the investigations they are obliged to complete.

I wish you all the best for a debt free life, and I offer my condolences on the loss of your wife.:A

I have had contact with 2 now and i have found them really fair and easy to deal with. I liked that the OR found a spending pattern with mine in the fact that i had been paying all my debts before having anything for myself.

    Condolences Shrek.

As finito said, the OR sees us as just another case to sort out until he goes home to his own strife and worries. They have a duty to you and your creditors to ensure you have not been reckless or have things stashed (like that Rembrant I just know you have put in the loft LOL!). And its doing it as quickly as possible. Sometimes the curt questions could turn a long phone interview into a much shorter one - as its best to get it out of the way.
