My DP bought me a new one about 3 weeks ago. It really is worth getting, I have used it everyday for something or other. I have made bread, masses of cakes, hot cross buns etc with the mixer. Soup and lemonade in the blender. The multi mill is great for coffee beans etc.

As it's so large it has to stay on the work top, but I think this is a good thing as it is ready to go all the time, instead of having all the faff of digging it out from a cupboard!

caitybabes, is the silicone blade worth buying as an extra ? i've just got the blade that came with the mixer 4 years ago, it's a pain scraping up the mixture and having bits of flour at the bottom of the bowl.

I have a silicone beater, it came with mine as part of the package and although it is good at scraping the bowl I'm not sure I would pay £40 for it. I have made cakes etc both with the metal blade and silicone with the same results. HTH.

Oh, I'm so glad I found this thread! My mum has a Kenwood Chef that she bought in the mid 60s and is still going strong. I loved it when I was growing up and missed it so much when I left home that my hubby bought me one for Christmas about 6/7 years ago. I was gutted to discover that it didn't mix all the ingredients properly and that the stuff at the bottom & sides didn't get incorporated into the rest of it. Thought it was just a sign of the times, appliances not being what they used to be etc etc and my mixer now stands sadly in a corner tucked behind the fruit bowl with loads of junk on top of it. :( Now after reading this I've realised that this can be fixed with a quick adjustment to the thing that holds the beaters - whoopee!!!!!:T:T:T

Off to start baking, I may be some time..........

Thanks for all the responses and suggestions. It sounds like a good appliance to have, so I watched a few eBay auctions to see what was available and what kind of prices to expect before bidding on one. I got lucky because I've just won an A701 on eBay this evening which is apparently in nearly mint condition and had little use.

I'm hoping to be able to cook more frequently when I have this. I often feel if it was quicker I'd cook more.

It comes with K beater and whisk. Now I know the model number I'm getting and what it comes with I can pick up some extras like a manual, dough hook and blender attachment to get started with it. There's a lot of different attachments for these, so I'm wondering if anyone has a favourite attachment? The slicer/grater ones look very time saving?

Well, it arrived yesterday and things are going well. "nearly mint" was an exaggeration, but for a 30-something year old kitchen appliance it's pretty good and it does run great, so I'm happy. The bright orange and chocolate brown colour scheme is fun too.

It's not as bulky as I worried so I've found a permanent place on the kitchen counter for it. I've had it two days and already used it twice. Yesterday I had to try it out so used it to make cheese straws (rubbing in and combining the dough with k-beater), which was really fast and easy. I went from having a bowl of flour with a big chunk of margarine in it and a jug of cold water to a ball of pastry in about 3 minutes.

Today I made mashed potatoes with it, which again was fast and easy. However, after being hit by flying potatoes I can recommend starting slowly.

Anyway, so far I'm impressed. I originally bought it to make dough and use the blender attachments, but I don't have either of these yet and it's already proving really useful. The instruction book has lots of useful suggestions for using it in different ways, plus some seriously retro recipes such as salads encapsulated in salmon flavoured jelly. Maybe I'll treat the cat one day and/or throw a 70s theme party :)

Oh you lucky thing, I love the orange ones! Glad you're having fun with it. My mum still has the recipe book that came with her 1970 Kenwood and the recipes are hilarious :D

Does anyone have a KC Prospecto or whatever it is called? The little one. I am eyeing one up so just wondered whether they are any good please
  • Hi All

I am looking at purchasing a food mixer as I have wanted one for a while and now I am at home looking after my little one I know I would get the use out of one, therefore justifying the expense.

I want to be able to mix cakes, cookies, egg whites etc. Make dough for baking bread and can you also make pastry in a food mixer?

I also like to idea of having a blender attachment but that is not so important.

Does anyone have any advise on what to look for or avoid? Or maybe a recommendation.

I have had a look at some websites but think I might be getting carried away with glossy looks rather than practicality.

Any advise would be much appreciated.
