Kenwood Chef - do I/don't I?

Debenhams have some Kenwoods in the reduced section on their website, I am not in the market for one so never paid too much attention, but it would be worth looking at them when you are price checking. oh Drool. I have been after a chef for a while, I bake ALOT usually rolls, pizza bases, muffns, fruit loafs etc and I think it would be so so useful but cost and kitchen space has been my downfall. I have now bought a larger home with a considerably larger kitchen. I wonder if its the type of thing to be reduced in the january sales thoughMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

Oh I wish I hadn't seen this! I have an old chef which blew up last time I used it. Does the titanium one that comes with the food processor have all the different food processor type blades-eg slicing grating and chopping?
Am trying to justify buying a new one by saying I can get rid of old one, old food processor old liquidiser and possibly the bread maker.....0 -
My one came with both the liquidiser and the processer with the normal chopping blades, and three slicing ones.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0

I got mine back in October 2008 - if you look back on this thread you will see me posting about the bargain price I got it for on Amazon! I have since got loads of attachments for it - spice mill, potato peeler and recently the sausage maker/mincer and ice cream maker. Haven't tried the last 2 out yet but will do soon.
I use it for blending soup, dough, cake mixing, pastry, mashed potato, grinding spices, making dips, to name but a few uses. Is great for peeling potatoes, just leave it to get on and I can do something else.
I thoroughly recommend a Chef, it will earn its keep very quickly if you cook from scratch! The current amazon price is quite good (£280) though not as good as mine (£199)
If this is too much - keep an eye out on Amazon warehouse deals - they sometimes have products which are perfect but have been returned and they are sold at reduced price but with the full Amazon warranty/returns policy.
I have used warehouse deals for stuff and always been v happy.

Thanks for all your replies. I am still reading them and trying to work out which one is best for me!!! I am not sure how much OH wants to spend but I personally would not want him to spend much more than £250.
I am also a bit worried about the size of them. We looked at some at the weekend and although I knew they were big they are actually bigger than I thought. It will have to live on my worktop as I have no space in the cupboards and do not fancy lifting it in and out anyway. I need to try and decide where it will go (I am thinking of getting rid of my breadmaker as I will be making the dough in the Chef and it could go where the breadmaker is).
I will let you know what we decide.The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
Can I make pastry in the bowl of the kenwood? Am really tempted by the titanium, but the food processor looks quite small, and am hoping to justify getting it by being able to get rid of my current food processor. I mainly use it to make pastry, breadcrumbs, slice potatoes for dauphinoise and finely chop veg for soups and sauces? Can the wee one that comes with the chef handle a batch of pastry? (if i can make it in bowl then it doesnt really matter
)

Yes you can, make it in the bowl and just use the K beater to rub the fat into the flour. You don't need the food processor attachment for pastry.0 -
What did you go for in the end, Catkins?0
