Gardiner Haskins, Bristol (and Cirencester)
Options
Time for a rave about another Bristol shop which I don't think of going to often enough, so chances are others don't either.
Gardiner Haskins is a large 'home' shop in Broad Plain. It's quite near Temple Meads, and quite a few buses seem to go there. It's within walking distance of The Galleries. It has its own car park: you have to pay, but if you get your ticket stamped instore the first hour is free, and if you spend more than £10 you can have 3 hours free parking.
So why am I so excited? Because it's the kind of shop which stocks those 'odd' things you don't quite know where to go for, and a lot more besides. Triangular key for the industrial dustbin at work? Got it! Brass curtain embrace? Got it! Furniture, white goods, curtains and curtain material, carpets, hard flooring, bathrooms, DIY, electrical, garden centre, heating, tiles, cookshop - and cheap toiletries!
I can't vouch for their prices, but if you want to look at a lot of stuff under one roof for a big project, or get something small and awkward, this is a good place to go.
Oh, and they also have a very nice coffee shop, currently offering a teacake and tea or coffee for £1.50.
From the website I found they also have a store in Cirencester, can't vouch for what that one's like, but I found the staff in Bristol friendly and helpful. And I just about avoided having to ask how to get out, because I was a bit lost ...

The Cirencester one is pretty good too - tend to get some great bargains in their sales after Christmas.0

Sorry I would have to disagree completely. You wait till you buy something and then want to complin.
Gardinier Haskins delivery service is appalling! I bought a washing machine and during the delivery they ripped up my brand new floor. The men then left sharpish without even uttering an apology. I wrote to complain as you can't get hold of management on the phone and they have written back saying it was up to me to protect the floor. However, the floor didn't stand a chance the way they were dragging the machine around. We had moved out our old one with no problems at all. Totally uncaring, unresponsive attitude. Thumbs down! I like to see what John Lewis would have said, I'll be going there next time!0 -
Since my original post, I would agree with you about the delivery service, which they subcontract out. The saga of getting our oven delivered was a long one, although once it arrived it was OK.
So I wouldn't buy anything I needed delivered from them again, but I still stand by what I said about being able to buy a range of 'odd' but extremely useful things under one roof.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I've never bought anything from there that had to be delivered so cannot comment on that, but I agree with Savvy-Sue in that it is easy to get lost in there and struggle to find your way out - especially on the ground floor!!!
It's a funny place to get to for us, so we don't go there very often.0
