We're in the middle of a PFI scheme, so all non emergency maintenance is on hold until it's done as part of the scheme. The councillors know this and are in favour so they can't do anything about it. I'm not in a worse position than any of the others on the estate and so I doubt they'd listen, just repeat that we have to wait for the refurbishment to happen.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

There are thousands in the same position - but few know how to get their voices heard.

Join the (non-party political) Isitfair council tax protest campaign at www.isitfair.co.uk

It's all free. No subscription fees; no joining fee; absolutely nothing to pay - guaranteed - just like this wonderful site - and we are not only for pensioners. If you think council tax is a lousy tax - our campaign is also for you.

We have the ear of quite a few in Westminster but we need more members/supporters because the more of us there are - the more clout we will have.

At the very least - take a look at our web site www.isitfair.co.uk

i live in a tiny flat with no central heating, just 1 crappy fire to heat the whole flat, my landlord won't put in central heating as the flat is too small to bother.
The thing is i have severe asthma and the cold really affects it so even putting on layers on doesn't help my asthma, my fuel bills have already doubled in the past 18 months and having checked i'm on the cheapest i can get so not looking forward to any more price hikes

I have a coin meter in my rented flat - about the most expensive way ever to pay for electricity (sigh). I never use my heating at all, I just go to bed when its cold in the winter. I hate renting sometimes!
  • I will be facing fuel poverty come winter time. My flat has central heating, but the boiler is in the 2nd bedroom and then for some daft reason while the therostat is in the hall, it is right next to the 2nd bedroom, so i cannot have it any lower than 25c as it will not come on.

So my 2nd bedroom is boiling hot and the rest of the house is just nice. This winter i will definately not be able to afford to have it on (if i could id move the therostat, but i cannot afford to get anyone in to do it).

I will be doing what i used to do in my old flat where i had 1 electric fire and that is wearing thermals under my jumper, or getting the duvet off the bed and have that around me while i watch tv.

Electric blankets are one of the cheaper ways to heat, because you're just heating you, and not the room.

If these prices remain high - I see four-poster beds making a comeback. They were originally designed because they were a "room within a room". Weather was a lot colder then - the Thames froze regularly in the 1800's.

Oh, and continualdiamond - you can get Milo in Sainsbury's. Doesn't taste much different to Ovaltine to me...

What annoys me is how much ctax varies from area to area. I am band A and £118 a month or £1183 a year. I think we have one of the higest rates in the country.

Blimey, that is high..I'm in band B and I think that is about the same as I pay..although I get a single person discount (Still £77 per month..ouch!).

We're the same, could do with loft being better insulated, luckily we have double glazing and a fairly modern property. But I still suffer pretty badly. I'd be eligible for a Warm Front grant but because I'm over 18 and live with my parents, I can't get it. No-one tells you that do they, we could have applied for it before.

Which way around does council tax go? Is A the most expensive or is D or E more expensive?

can you not sleep in the second bedroom? I agree with thermals they are great, not looking forward to winter this year, will be using the open fire as much as possible.
