  • I believe that the thread you are referring to starts "I realise this is a risky thing to say....." and continues ".........a quick flick through this forum this morning seems to reveal several instances where it would appear that there are people who are trying, in various ways, to wriggle out of debts which they have knowingly incurred themselves."

This was deleted by ForumTeam1 last night (not myself personally), however it needs to be understood that threads like these cause arguements. To give you an example of the current workload we had around 150 emails arrive from the time we finished last night and this morning. We work part time at this and threads like this simply have to be removed before they create a higher workload.

This isn't us trying to stop discussion, but that thread serves no purpose to moneysaving other than to open an area for people to argue.

Couldn't it have been moved over to The Vent Board rather than be deleted? I thought there were some very valid points made, and it was an interesting debate (as opposed to argument). I'm very disappointed that the powers that be decided to delete this. I think it was the wrong decision on this occasion.

    Or the discussion/argument area ;)
  • None of this explains why the post couldn't simply have been locked.

Locking a post asserts the moderator's right to define the boundaries they consider acceptable, surely deletion of the post entirely requires some sort of moral judgment on the content of the post - censorship.

Who decides where debate becomes argument?

this discussion would of disappearred already if it had been in discussions:rolleyes:

abuse decide if it should be deleted or locked but as said in the new rules, non moneysaving ones won't have time wasted on them ,which is fair enough I suppose..................but I agree it would of been better locked

having said that ,then we would be discussing the locking now instead of the deleteing :D

By all accounts it can locked or deleted by one complaint, so if one person does not like the way the thread is going the above will happen! Unless as usual i'm missing something.
  • I really think all posters should have a read of Martin's posts at the top of the board.

It clearly states that this is a money saving website and the resourses will not be diverted from those aims to sort out arguements that might arise that are secondary to this aim. It also states that posting on this site is a privilege and not a right, those are the rules for this forum so saying that it is different in any other forum is not an option when you tick the box agreeing to the rules when you sign up.

The report button is there for the purpose of reporting a post and users should feel free to use it and not be made to feel that they should pm a user if they feel unhappy with a post or posts.

This will sometimes be the case, a vote is not taken on the number of complaints a thread receives.

Helen, you seem to feel I had a personal vendetta against you. I did not. I asked abuse to look at the thread as a whole, as I felt it had got a bit out of control.

They looked at it, and decided to delete it. Not on my say so, but on theirs. If they had disagreed with me, undoubtedly the thread would still be there.

If you really want to have the discussion still, then have it in Moneysavers' Arms. I promise to stay away.

Here's the email I got this morning about it in response to my email reported the thread:

"I've removed that thread as I think it's always going to be a contentious issue and cause bad feeling on the board."

Hope that clears things up Helen.
