DD1 is back at uni this month and is renting a private flat with her friend who has just started employment. DD1 has been trying to get quotes for contents insurance but quite a few companies have refused her because she is not living in student accommodation. Our own insurer does offer student belongings cover but again…

SAAS problems :(
I originally intended to stay at home, and they requested my mums divorce papers. Shortly after, I changed my term time address to the halls, as I decided it would be best to move. As I was no longer within the family home, I thought the divorce papers were no longer needed. Talking to my uni, I HAVE still to send these,…

Average student debt?
What is the average student debt? If my DS borrows the loan and fees all 3 years then he will have around 21K of debt. That is if he can manage on that, otherwise he will be using his overdraft or a credit card, therefore it will be more than 21K  I thought the average was 12K but I have no idea how I got that figure…

Renewing a railcard when you're about to stop being a student
I am just coming to the end of a MSc and have a 16-25 railcard - I am eligible for one as a mature student. The railcard website states that you can apply for a railcard when you are 25 and continue to use it for the year even if you turn 26 the day after you apply. I wondered whether the same applied to mature students -…

How to save my money in the right place?
Closed my Natwest cash ISA that had nothing in it and opened a Manchester Building Society Premier 45 day notice account. I currently have £1,250 in it. I'm going to be getting a £2kish loan and £2kish grant. I'm planning to put the loan into an account and use the grant. As I'm living at home it shouldn't be a problem. I…

Parents of New Students
Just thought I'd say a big good luck and well done to the parents of those students currently going off to University. While it's a big step for our children it's as big an adjustment for those of us who are left behind. Wife's 1st day on 2 year Master Degree course.
Hi all, I know about the council tax reductions we can get together but i was looking into the bank accounts and couldnt really see any help for 'mature' students for bank accounts. My wife wont need the Overdraft so we could potentially 'tart' it as Martin says in his articles. Thing is she has a Halifax reward current…
