Best way to save?
Hello! I was just wondering on what is the best way to save money? Not for anything specific but for a rainy day or something to fall back on if a troubled day ever comes. I’ve tried the basic way of saving before by taking a so much out of my wage every month and putting it in my savings, but I just find myself dipping…

Help to invest in gold?
Hi all. I have recently been retired and have my lump sum to invest. I am a cautious person about money as I do not understand finances. I have in the past tried to buy shares but although my family all managed to make money, the first time I tried it I lost my investment - it was only £250 but it was all the spare money I…

Lump sum investment advice
Hi, here's my situation: No savings. No debt that has interest on it. Minimal ability to save monthly. Able to live on what I earn (not going further into debt or needing to spend any lump sums in the foreseeable future). No mortgage and have never owned a home. I am about to inherit an amount which will be between £10,000…

Lifetime ISA Query
Sorry if this sounds like a daft question. I haven’t been able to find an answer anywhere online. I’ve been saving for my first home for a few years now and still have some way to go before reaching my savings target. I’ve now decided to open a Lifetime ISA. I’ve already saved £18,000 in an ordinary ISA. Will I be able to…

Lost share certificate indemnity
I have lost a share certificate and the registrars are asking for a bank or insurance company indemnity. They didn’t offer to cover it for a cost themselves. Has anyone found a company that offers cheap indemnity cover please? The banks don’t want to know. TIA

Cash saving apps
Does anyone have experience with these. They round up card sales to nearest whole pound and save that up over time. Some say they then invest the savings too. Anyone have any recommendations? Or experience. Thanks

Lifetime ISA + H2B ISA | Government Bonus
Hi all, So. My wife and I are currently full steam ahead in saving for our first home. 2 years ago, my wife took out a H2B ISA in her name and we have been paying into it each month from our joint account. We are now in the position where we can open another ISA to help save. Here is my question. If I were to take out a…

Tax on savings - help please!
So - it's project house purchase and I will have a couple of large lump sum payments arriving from family over the next couple of years, which I need to put away somewhere, to gather interest. I am new to savings accounts, and I know tax is payable over a certain amount. I really need to put these lump sums into fixed rate…

Brexit and EU Domiciled Funds
I know there's too many Brexit topics, but I promise this is a topic that may affect many investors. So, the funds available in the UK, especially ETFs, are often EU (specifically, Irish) domiciled. A good example of this would be the majority of (or all?) ETFs provided by Vanguard UK. Those funds are available in the UK…

New to funds, got some questions
Hello, I got an okay paying job and I can invest about 20k a year (my salary will only increase from here), and I have 25-30 years of work before I reach retirement. I have never invested in funds before (I have owned individual shares though). After a lot of research, I have decided to go for passive funds, in particular,…

Transfering ISA to Savings Account
Evening guys, I am transferring my Virgin ISA to my ICICI Bank and it's saying 'You are about to transfer money from a Cash ISA. If you are transferring this money to an account which is not a Cash ISA you will lose the ISA tax-free status on the money you transfer.' Forgive my ignorance but will I penalised in any way…

Managed Cash Deposits,,,what are they?
I have heard today of something called managed cash deposits. Its where if you have money say from the sale of a house, and dont want to spread it around in 75k fscs units, someone does this for you, at better rates than you can get on the high street, and they themselves get money from the bank for placing it there. I…

Regular savings account linked to current accounts
Hi all, Despite regular nagging from my rather money savvy mother, I've always been a bit lax on the whole looking after my money business, but right now without any alignment of the stars or the horoscopes foretelling my economic fate I have randomly decided now is the time to concede and start getting in the know…

Converting Pounds to Euros, Brexit
I have quite a large amount of pounds I am thinking of converting to Euros before 29th March, which is the date the UK is due to leave the EU. If the UK leaves without a deal, the pound would likely tank, meaning I could potentially make a profit when I convert these Euros back to pounds. Is it worth it?
