OEIC or ETF for S&P500?
What are relative merits of an OEIC or an ETF to invest in the S&P500? I get the impression the pros favour ETFs but from what I can see OEICs edge it: comparing HSBC American Index to HPSX or VUSA, the ETF charges are a fraction higher and there is also a small spread.

How to invest £20-40k
Due to the company I work for being taken over I have received £20k after the sale of my shares. This money was always earmarked to cover the shortfall in a crappy endowment policy my husband took out before we met. The endowment matures in 2020 and has an approx £15k shortfall, so we have that covered. We currently have…

Any Crowdcube fans?
I'm an avid crowdcube investor, I was wondering if anyone also invests? I probably invest about £50 / month average in various startups and have about 30 investments total. It's more of a hobby than a serious investment bid, although I know several companies are doing very well and I could see some returns one day. Anyone…

Chargeable event on death - do we owe tax?
The more I read on this the more confused I get especially as several articles on the web appear to contradict each other so I'm hoping someone out there can advise. Mum died in January this year and 4 investment bonds became payable to her estate (namely me and my sister as joint beneficiaries - I am acting executor). The…

Increasing my ISA Investments
Hi, I started a S&S ISA around a year ago, to get the hang of using it etc, and started putting £100 a month into 4 different funds. I was also saving for a house deposit which I just finished, so I don't see much point in continuing to save cash. I have no real goals for the money other than for it to grow as much as…

Holistic Portfolio Allocation
Guys - I'd love to get your feedback on my current strategy. Basically, I have a very simple 2 fund portfolio (75% global ETF tracker and 25% global ETF bond). Excluding my work based pension, I have the following in place: 1) Personal investment account with IB - this is taxable and the main bulk of my money goes here…

PCF Bank
Hi, am thinking of opening an account at the above bank. I have checked on the FCA website which states they are 'authorised'. Does this automatically mean they are covered by the FSCS so I could get my money back if the bank failed? Thanks.

BT shares lost
My father bought the minimum shares in the plublic offering of BT shares back in early 80s. Since then he has held onto them and shares have been split into O2 and BT and new share certificates issued over the years. He has been receiving dividends until 2 years ago. Then suddenly the dividends stopped arriving. We wrote…

Best place to save £50k+ for a year
Sorry fellow savers you must get these posts a lot, but having done on various sites, each one seems to have their own agenda. I need advice from someone similar to me that has over £50k stored away that is 1 for a year 2 pays good interest 3 safely protected 4 no tax deductions if possible. I am slightly wary as I feel we…

Why?
Hi, I'm a newbie, so please bear with me! I am, and always will be, a SAVER. WHY are Savings called Savings? Surely (these days) this contravenes the Trade Descriptions Act and ASA rules? Would they not be better described as "Deposit Accounts"? I (have to) spread my "Savings" around in order to get full FSCS protection,…

CSD & Vanguard broker accounts
I've just sold out of a couple of funds (I won't say which ones in case someone points out my horrendous error) held with CSD and will be putting it in to a Vanguard ETF. I'm thinking about opening a Vanguard broker acct, and buying the new ETF within it. The bulk of my other holdings are in Vanguard funds, so in time I…
