Child Trust Fund
Hi We have our son's voucher that we need to use within the next couple of weeks Could anyone give any basic pointers as to where to invest this? I am not averse to the share idea (especially as the market seems quite good for this at the moment), but how do I begin, and whom should I invest it with (preferably with…

ISA vs High Interest Fixed Saving Account
I am new to this site so apologies if this debate has already been raised. As an ex IceSave saver, i was just relieved to see my savings again. I had roughly 10K in an Icesave ISA, and whilst the funds were suspended i went to Natwest to open up an ISA there. Filled in all the transfer request from my IceSave ISA, but as…

natwest esavings account
I opened the natwest esavings account about an hour and a half ago and I already have natwest online banking. The web page http://www.natwest.com/personal/savings/g1/instant-access/e-savings/apply.ashx states that as I am already an online banking customer I should - 'If you bank online we can save you time by pre-filling…

Saving rates drop again
Looks like Saving rates are dropping again. FD have dropped all their rates by 1%, so the ISA is 1.5%!!!! and the everyday e-savings account is 1.75%!!! These really are just terrible. I have an ISA with NCBS which dropped from 6% to 4.1% and no doubt will drop again. My Northern Rock Savings dropped from 5.5% to 4% and is…

How About Land
With interest on savings going down, anyone got any opinions on land as a "store of value" or even an investment. If say a woodland, you could get some ammenity use of of it too. As I keep hearing, they don't make any more land these days. Rgds Mark

Question on Multiple Savings Accounts
My sister just got £10k in back pay come through, and i told her the other week to open up a Natwest account. (This was when i thought they had the best all round package for savings account and ISA) Its best to keep it all in one place maybe sacraficing a little interest but it keeps it all simple for her. I said just to…

Do You Look at Your Portfolio?
With great hesitation, I logged in to my Ameritrade account yesterday for the first time in about 4 months. I used to check multiple times a day, but that's a great way to drive yourself crazy. Eventually I decided that regardless of what is happening in the market, my investing strategy doesn't really change. But it sure…

B&B Internet Saver 3
I see the rates have dropped for this account now too - though I'm damned if I can see what the w.e.f. date is - I'm guessing 12 Dec, same as available accounts. It has dropped to 3.41% AER (2.75% net PA), 3.36% monthly gross (2.69% net monthly).

Northern Rock fixed saver - 1 or 5 years ?
Martin's article which is updated daily suggests it is 4.5% for 1 year, but if I go to NR's website it looks like it is 5 years ? I could not find the 1 year option, has it changed very recently ? MSE: NR: I do not really want to fix for 5 years, what is the best (and safe) alternative if that is the case ?

Where can I buy shares (Today/Immediately)
Hi, I've suddenly had an urge to buy HBOS shares given their price today. However, I don't have a share dealing account anywhere so am not sure where I could buy some HBOS shares in order to benefit from the low price today. Ideally I'm after a reputable company where I can pay with my direct debit card. Any suggestions?…

Hello. My ISA certificate arrived today. The money is already in my bank account. I am not sure what to do now - obviously I need to transfer the money into another ISA asap and want to do this online. I don't really want to transfer the money into an existing ISA as I may be able to get a better rate elsewhere. Has anyone…
