Hi I hope that someone can help. My brother has sold his house and has £40k left after clearing the mortgage. He is wanting to earn a bit of interest while he looks for another house. He will not have any spare money to pay into a monthly savings, just the lump sum. If he cannot find a house and the council rehouse him the…

Very angry OH! Advice please.
My OH took out an endowment savings policy with Royal London 10 years ago. At the time, he was told that if he invested £20 every 4 weeks (or £21.67 p/m), he could expect a return anywhere between £4-£6k. The policy matures next month, and we have been sent a projected maturity statement, telling us he'll receive £2777,…

25k Best way to save?
The Mrs & I have managed to squirrel away 25k. We already have a cash isa each at full quota. What is the best thing to do in terms of a sound safe investment for the 25k? What sort of rates of return could we expect to see? In terms of 'slightly' riskier investments what is on offer and what sort of returns would we…

Saving/Investment Risk Definition
A statement that continually arises when discussion or comments are requested is that it all depends on your attitude to risk. Accepting that risk is a subjective thing and probably personal anyway, is there a definitive scale that measures risk, and can specific investments be aligned with them. My own personal situation…

Forex Trading
I've seen lots of investment types covered in this forum, but most of the online trading focuses on share dealing. I see a lot about currency trading, and have checked out a few brokers. Does anyone know which are the best online forex brokers? I'm interested in starting with £200-500, and seeing where that takes me.

Savings quandry
I am now trying to sort out my finances after a long period of just letting them sort themselves. Fortunately I have very little to worry about at present. No dependants, no house and a paid off car. My food except lunch is bought by my parents and I currently pay no rent. This is because they want me on the housing ladder…

I've just received confirmation that it is possible to transfer your SL shares from SL's share service (run by computershare) into a nominee (such as when you use Selftrade for example), without losing your entitlement to Bonus shares. Standard Life/Computershare share dealing error!!
21 July: Complaint removed as it turns out it was mostly down to a muck up by ME!!!! I still maintain that the Computershare helpline is significantly less than impressive AND that if share applications had been allowed over the internet for UK applicants then the whole thing would have been much simpler.
