Husband and Wife Pensions
I am a 40% tax payer and thus benefit from a healthy tax allowance when paying into a pension, my wife is not but we would like to ensure we have a pension sufficiently large for both of us. Should I pay more into my pension or, set up a separate pension for her even though it won't benefit from the same tax benefits.…

Transfer Australian pension to UK
My mom is an Australian citizen and receives an australian government pension. She is moving back to the UK (still a UK citizen and also has a UK pension) and I wanted to know if anyone had any advise as to whether she can transport her Australian pension to the UK, and if so, how?

USS vs QROPS
I'm an Expat based in SE Asia, but working for a UK university and enrolled in the USS, currently as a beneficiary who would be entitled to a Final Salary-calculated pension. I've been in the USS Scheme for six years and am 42 years old, and I intend to stay with my employer ideally until I retire. Today I had a meeting…

Pensions calculator
Using pensions calculators it always asks for annual growth %'s. Now this is obviously very difficult to predict. What would you suggest for this? I'm just trying to do a basic calculation of if I place £600 a month into a SI PP and £400 a month into an ISA for 30 years what this would roughly be worth on retirement.

USS funding position -- how to understand the situation?
I wonder if more knowledgeable members of the forum might have a view on how best to understand the apparently irreconcilable points of view on the USS scheme's funding position. The employers seem to believe that the scheme requires drastic change to combat underfunding, while the union disagrees with the valuation…

State Pension deferral
Hi I'm searching online to find out whether a person who reached their State pension age in 2013 and chose to defer their State pension can still take a lump sum after the rules change in April 2016. I can see lots of articles saying that anyone reaching SPA before the changes will still have the current rules applied, but…

Ethical pension
Hello, I am self-employed and want to start a new pension. I want to invest in 'ethical' funds and for me the main focus is on environmental issues - i.e. investing in renewable energy etc etc. I know this limits my options of funds significantly so I'd come to the conclusion that I might have to go down the SIPPS route to…

Auto Enrolment - "Free Money"
I keep seeing auto enrolment described as "free money" for an employee. Employers are obliged to participate when their staging date comes round. They must contribute their % share towards the employees pension. They have additional admin costs themselves relating to this AND must pay a pension company to administer the…

I have little idea if I would…

Company pension question
Hi I am currently paying in £120 per month and my employer is adding double this per month, into a company pension scheme. To be honest I haven't looked at it for a couple of years. The sum in the pot is now £37,000, not a lot as I did not start paying into any until my late thirties. I have 19 years to retirement. However…

Employer contributions not increasing
Hi, I've got a workplace pension. My employer pays in a percentage based on the time I've been with the organisation - 3% after 2 years, 6% after 4 years. Over the summer I passed the 4 year mark. Unfortunately it didn't occur to me to check the pension contribution until last weeks payslip - where I noticed that I was…

Pension transfer fees - what is reasonable?
Hi, this is my first post so please forgive any glaring omissions or errors. A bit of background - I have been a director in my own limited company for the past two years, during which time I have not made any pension contributions. I recently decided to rectify this and sought the advice of a (recommended) IFA. I have a…
