cashing in a small pension
I have a work pension that is current worth about £5k. I will be 55 this year, under the rules as I understand them I can take a small pension if it is £2k or less but would have to wait until I am 60 to take the whole amount if it remains under £18K by that time. My question is can I split this work pension by putting it…

Paying next years contributions before the end of this tax year
I have a private pension scheme which is managed Zurich. I make regular contributions by monthly direct debit (and have done so for the past 27 years or so). My work situation is changing and as a result, in the short term (perhaps for the next year) I will revert from being a higher rate tax payer to a basic rate tax…

Best SIPP for holding overseas equities?
Hey there, I'm looking to open a Sipp with about 80k initially. I already have exposure to UK equities through my ISA so am looking to diversify by investing in foreign markets, equities rather than funds. Any advice on which SIPPs support this well for a reasonable fee? So far as I can see Hargreaves Lansdown is probably…

Existing pension, auto enrolment, IFA costs megabucks, what do
2 years ago I read the MSE pension article and decided I'd better get on with it ASAP (age/2 = 14.5% is nicer than 15.5%, it all adds up) so saw an IFA and started a stakeholder pension with Aegon. The auto enrolment was potentially a long time off depending on how much my employer chose to drag their feet. Now they're…

Cash ISA as part of pension saving.
I want to increase my pension contributions but want to do something different rather than just upping my private pensions (I will be doing this too actually) My plan is to use cash ISAs as part of my pension. I know one major downside is this is always accessible but I'm happy with my disipline! I'm thinking of paying in…

Added Pension vs AVCs Revelation!
Well I'm a member of the Civil Service pension scheme and I've been paying AVCs with Scottish Widows for about 4 years or so. The other day my work's pensions person sent round an email about Added Pension. She does this every year but in the past I thought "well I don't need added pension as I have AVCs". After a few sums…

Transferring frozen pension
Can a pension last paid into (and frozen) in 2006 have it's total pension pot amount transferred into a new auto enrolment company pension? The pension provider on the new auto enrolment pension is the same as that on the frozen pension.

Not being offered a Pension (Part time)
Hi All, I was told by an ex colleague today that they claimed £22,000 off of the co-op (our ex employer) as they didn't allow part time employees to have a pension and apparently this has been made illegal by the EU. I've had a Google and I can't see anything about how you claim for it or any information about it. Does…

Pension from 1989, maybe?
Today my wife and I got a notice from DWP stating what our OAP pension would be from April and I suddenly remembered that she worked at a factory from 1977 until 1988, this factory no longer exists. We also moved to another town then. I tried googling the place she worked at but it no longer exists. It closed down in 1990.…

Should I leave a small DB pension where it is, or transfer to new company's Dc scheme
I have recently moved jobs, and join the company's DC scheme, however I now have 4 older pension, 3 DC and a DB. I am considering transferring all to the new company scheme or even a new personal scheme, with the intention of paying more in on top on a monthly basis. Does anyone understand the teacher pension scheme?
So here is my situation. I've been paying into the scheme for the past 8 years. Then I had 1 school year break. Then I returned to teaching on a much lower salary. I'm considering leaving the teaching profession but am a little scared about what I've just done to my pension. Basically in the school year 11-12 I earned…

Pensions for wife
Are there any products around that would be better value than an ordinary pension by only paying out if I pre-decease my wife? The reason is that I have a career average, defined benefit scheme that will pay out close to 100% of average pay if I retire at state pension age, but only pays 37.5% as a widow' pension - As my…

LGPS - Rule of 85
Hi, First of all can i say what a great forum this is. I've been reading it with interest over the last few months and as a result I've begun to set up a basic spreadsheet to help with future projections about expenditure and pension income and how we may (or may not) deal with it in our retirement. Its very early days (we…

Auto enrolment tax relief
I am already using my maximum tax relief with my private pension payments, will I be entitled to Auto Enrolment tax relief with my NOW Pension which I intend to take up in April? I believe you can ask for 3 years of unused tax relief to be used. Is this correct?
