Many must be deciding wife's pension
My wife is a couple of years younger than me and has little entitlement (12p/week!). She can buy some NI contributions back. BUT can she do this and start her pension and still get a pension (which I assume will be bigger) based on mine (which is fully qualifying) when I finally draw mine? We are confused as to where to go…

Teachers pension and stakeholder pension
I wonder if anyone would be able to help me out with a query? I'm 28, have been teaching since 2003 and have always paid into the standard Teachers Pension Scheme. However, before I started teaching (probably about 2001?) I also started a small personal pension, paying £50 a month which I've continued to pay up until to…

First year in the UK @ 40. Opting out?
Hi, I am 40 years old, moved to the UK 1 year ago and pay taxes etc. over here. I now wondered if it makes sense for me to opt out for the state pension as I might return to Germany before I reach the pension age. I understand that I could top up to reach my 30 years of contribution but do you think I´d be better of opting…

Pension "Abatements"! What are they for? Are they restricitve practices?
HI everyone, NHS and local govt., firefighters, civil service etc, pension schemes usually have an "abatement" rule, which says that if you retire early (my case: Mental health officer status, nhs pension, retried at 55,:j) and then return to the scheme and earn more than you did at retirement, then the pension provider…

So, I'm late in getting my pension kicked off but now my mortgage is relatively stable, as is income and outgoings, I figure now is as good a time as any to get going. Tax Relief on Company Pension Contributions
Hi I have only recent found out that as a 40% tax payer I am entitled to tax relief on contributions I make to my personal pension plan. I understand my employer claims 20% tax relief but I should have been claiming a further 20%. For the 2008/2009 tax year ended 31 March my employer's contribution was £5,874.98, my net…

Second State Pension
Am I right in thinking that if I become self employed, my entitlement to the second state pension ends, and is limited to what I have built up so far by being employed all my working life? (I already have my 30 years' entitlement to the basic pension). All help/info gratefully received!

historic annuity rates
Does anyone have a link to a website showing historic annuity rates? I ask because when I read analysis in the financial press, most writers build their models based on an annuity rate of 5%, ie a pension of £5000 for a £100k pension pot. However, the real rates today are around 6-6.5% and I was under the impression - from…

Using your pension pot overseas
While I have a fair chunk of savings invested overseas I have recently arrived back in the UK with the sole intention of being here for five years to build a pension pot. When I have done that (my target is to build to around £220-250k) by 2013 when I will be 49, with the idea of then sitting on it and hoping it grows…

Why would I have 2 pensions with the same company.
I took out a pension with Standard Life through a small local broker 23 years ago. As my salary increased I increased my contributions every 2 or 3 years through the same broker.
