overpayment or shorter time; which is best?
Evening all, I am about to remortgage and currently have 29 years left on my mortgage. I can definately reduce to 22 years, but if I stretched myself I could reduce this to 17 years. Is it better to go for the 22 years (with the safety of lower payments should I come into payment difficulties i.e. loosing job) and overpay…

How long?
We contacted a financial advisor for a mortgage the first week of November - five or six weeks ago now. We got an agreement in principle (Natwest). Then sent off our driving licences etc and put in the application. They have now sent us a letter to be signed and returned (in post today) - and a letter for our adult son…

Competitive mortgage rate 85-90% LTV?
Hi Y'all :) I currently bank with the co-operative and smile, but am thinking of having a radical overhaul to take advantage of some of the deals on offer (halifax reward acct for example) However, my Halifax mortgage fix comes to an end soon and I'm wondering if there would be any point in keeping an account with the…

NRAM Charges
We were recently inquiring to rent out our 1 bedroom flat (which is too small for our family) as we are unable to sell in the current financial crisis. We have a mortgage, unfourtunately with NRAM, and we needed a consent to let. After going through the long process of them agreeing a CTL at a cost of £100 per year…

Calculating mortgage payments
Hi I'm coming off a Nationwide 5.63% 5-yr fixed rate this month and have just checked what the new payments will be. New rate is supposed to be 2.5%. But on a balance of £96528 with 9 years left, Nwide are saying the payments shd be £1022, while I calculate it at £999. Seems like a big difference to me. Am I right? or are…

Halifax SVR
My fixed term ends shortly currently at 5.6% Halifax SVR is 3.99% at present. I'm not that keen to be hit with fees etc to fix in again, and I'm not certain I've accrued enough equity. Should I try and re-fix or ride it out?

I am I wasting my time here?
I decided I wanted to buy a little apartment to leave my kids. I have banked with a big Spanish based organisation for 15 years (not sure if I am allowed to mention names). I found a nice place, and made the offer to the estate agency, subject to mortgage approval. I made an appointment with the bank for the mortgage. The…

Pay off or keep current mortgage before raising more funds
Have just £2k left in our mortgage and can pay it off completely if needed. But, we're looking to move house early next year, where I'll need to raise funds (~140k). It's really tempting to be debt free and pay off the mortgage, but I also think I'll have an easier time getting the new mortgage if I keep the current one…
