Paying off a lump sum or making higher repayments
My current mortgage deal has come to an end so I've reverted back to variable rate. As this is much lower I've been making overpayments so the monthly amount is the same as it was under my fixed deal. However, I'm wondering if it would be better for me to pay a lump sum off (equivalent to a year's worth of the extra money…

A&L / Santander
Hi, can anyone explain to me how Alliance & Leicester who are so 'proud' to be part of Santander can be charging a variable rate of 4.99% to existing customers yet offering new customers the Abbey variable rate of 4.24%? Surely the same company should be charging the same variable rate?

When a 2 year fix with Abbey, isn't a 2 year fix!
When is a 2 year fix not a 2 year fix? Booked a 2 year fix a couple of years ago (5.59%!) on 18th March 2008. Called Abbey today to discuss a new deal and they tell me it doesn't expire until June 1st 2010? They confirmed the book date that I had for the deal, but that the expiry was correct in their eyes. Anyone heard of…
