Negative Interest Rates
Hi All, First post, so please be kind ;-) Seems the latest buzz phrase of the credit crunch is 'negative interest rate', when the BoE base rate falls below 0% (I should say now that i don't believe it will happen, but bare with me!). It happened in the 70s in Switzerland when the Swiss Franc was considered a safe…

Woolwich int only - when does change to interest rate occur following BoE change?
For a Tracker - is it the first of the the following month after a change is announced by the BoE or the first available payment date after the change occurs? According to my T&Cs it is the first available payment date, but other threads state the former. Thanks.

Problem with Future mortgages
We just got a call this morning to tell us that our last two mortgage payments were late which came as a bit of a shock. Due to a change of circumstances I took over paying the mortgage alone in October and made a card payment then set up a standing order for November. I set the payment date to 25th after discussing with…

I spoke to Halifax this morning and I asked 'can i over pay' as my dad can't. They replied that I can over pay by 10% of the total mortgage which is £27,000. This is £2,250 a year and £180 a month. They then asked what do I want it to go towards, 1) Capital 2) Interest or 3) to Reducing the Term? I then said let me get…

Additional borrowing on mortgage...would you?
I am toying with the idea of borrowing £2600 on my mortgage for some desperately needed home improvements...obviously though the current climate is making me think *very* hard about this, any further borrowing is going to eat away at my equity and reduce the LTV. During the peak of the boom my property could have possibly…

Remortgage to rent out
I have a fixed rate interest only mortgage with Northern Rock - the fixed rate is due to end a year in July and there is a £1500 penalty for coming out early; I'm not sure what rate I'm paying (at work at mo) but it was set 3 years ago so will certainly be higher than rates are currently. The balance is around £101k and…

I am a 25 year old FTB, income of £37,000 and have narrowed down my choice of mortgages (both over 30 years) down to: 5yr, 5.69% fixed with Principality - no admin fees, £300 valuation or 2.25 yr,…

Banks Interest Rate Flat Rates - Legal or Not?
Just a silly question which may not have a silly answer. My question is this.... I have a lifetime tracker mortgage (base rate + 0.49%) with the Woolwich and I know that the recent interest rate decreases have saved me quite a few £'s on my mortgage repayments. I have read in the press that banks will not pass on any…
