Yorkshire BS
Hi all! My fixed rate deal with A&L ends in April next year. I am keen to secure a 5 year fix and the YBS 5 year fix @5.49% looks attractive (72% ltv, 2.6 x joint incomes). this would be affordable and give us peace of mind. am somewhat worried this kind of deal may not be available nearer the time to remortgage, even…

One Account with RBS
Hi Is the One account a real genuine offset product? As opposed to a bank account with offset similarities? If I have a 95K mortgage in my One Account and I have a balance owing of < 35K, is my balance > 35K safe ie. the amount I have overpaid? Answers/opinions appreciated, thanks very much.

Hello, Wondered if anyone might be able to answer the following? I'm looking at a Woolwich remortgage deal, a lifetime tracker at a rate of 6.19% at present. There are no fees or charges to set up the mortgage and no fees for early repayment. The APR on the mortgage is 6.4%. I understand that the APR is a rate which allows…

Books for First Time Buyers
Hello all, Does anyone know of any good books/guides out there about property purchasing and mortgages, specifically designed for first time buyers, and published relatively recently (ie, that take into account the current economic climate) I've read Martin's Mortgage Guide, but since it was published in 2006, all the…

Will mortgage offer remain valid???
We are a few weeks off completing on our house sale/purchase. Our mortgage offer is with the Halifax. If they merge with Lloyds TSB will the offer be honoured or are we going to be stuck scrambling around to find a new mortgage? Everything had been going so well the one stumbling block we didn't anticipate and plan for was…

Mortgages for people on contract work...
Quick question mainly aimed at any mortgage advisors here. I'm a FTB and when I qualify I'm likely to be on contract work of 1 year initially. This would mean our joint income for at least that year would be £50k. If we then had a 25% deposit for a house, would this mean we are likely to get a mortgage or will no one touch…

Mortgage advice - and home 'extension' advice please!!!!
Hi all. We're about to get ourselves into another mortgage term, and so far have got competitive rates with our existing mortgage company to choose from - fixed rate for 3, 5 or 10 years. However, we're considering an extension to the property, not that we are desperate for it at the moment, but it certainly will be very…

Solicitor needed to pay off mortgage?
My endowment policy has matured [though it's not as ripe as I'd been promised!] enabling me to pay off my mortgage. My bank has told me to appoint a solicitor. Is this necessary? All I want to do is to pay them what I owe them, not to buy another property

Shared Ownership
My husband and I own a shared ownership property and were selling it until today when the sale fell through just before exchange. As a result, we've discovered that we may actually own a millstone rather than a house - can anyone help?! The house is one of the 'old style' shared ownerships with half being owned (mortgaged)…
