REALLY basic mortgage question...
hi again If I'm interested in short period, flexible mortgages (e.g.trackers) and will overpay quite a bit, does it matter what period of mortgage I take out ie. 25 vs 20 vs 15 years ? Presumably, the shorter the period, the more I'll pay off but the harder than monthly pain. If I'm going to overpay, wouldn't I be better…

Novice mortgage questions
Please forgive me in advance for the naive nature of these questions - I’m very very new to the whole mortgage thing! Basically, the background is that my parents are getting divorced (not what you expect after 30 years of marriage but that’s another story). They are in the process of selling their home and from the…

Another Fixed / Tracker Dilemma....
Hi All, I'd love some insight into my dilemma. Our fixed rate mortgage with the Nationwide is ending at the end of May. We are currently at 5.09% - £80,000 loan, against £170,000 property with 11 years to run. Nationwide is offering 5.63% fixed for 5 years with no arrangement fee. The other alternative is their lifetime…

Trackers which offer more than 10% pa overpayment ?
hi Last year I made a >10% overpayment on my C&G tracker. I now need to take out a new mortgage - but a new tracker with C&G appears to have a 10% cap on overpayment. Are there any alternative trackers which will give me more overpayment flexibility ? I don't really want to go the whole hog and go for offset / VirginOne…

Mortgage Holiday Breaks
I have a fixed rate discount mortgage with Halifax and I've recently looked into taking a mortgage holiday - I'm getting married and I wanted to have a bit of extra money. My initial understanding was that it would only 'cost' me an extra £10 a month on my mortgage for the privelege of 1 months break and I would incur no…

Buy to Let predicament
Hi all, this will probably generate very little sympathy, but here it is anyway. A Buy to Let apartment I bought a couple of years ago, which has cost me probably £3000/year even with a fixed mortagage will now cost close to £5000 with the same mortagage co. on the St. Var. Rate. The flat is up for sale, has been since…

Negative Equity - Implications
Say this house price crash, which many people seem to be predicting, does happen. And say I've only recently taken out a 95% mortgage to buy a property, which has resulted in negative equity. What are the implications here ? Is it simply that if I want to upgrade or remortgage I'd need to pay the negative balance ?
