Worried about tenants in house i am buying
Hi everyone. I put in an offer on a house on the 23rd March. The house currently has tenants in situ which I never gave another thought about until recently. My survey has not yet been done (its due on the 23rd may) When i asked why its taken 3 weeks to survey the EA told us it was due to shortage of surveyors in the SE.…

Would you buy a house that didn't have a family bathroom?
My 3 bedroom house has a tiny bathroom and a separate toilet, at the time I thought it was a genius idea because it means you can have a leisurely bath/shower/shave and other people can still use the toilet, however it now occurs to me that I've never seen a house that has this kind of set up before so now I'm wondering if…

How much will I add to the value?
On a similar thread I was reading that it's really adding size that adds value to a property. I wondered what are people's thoughts about how this works. We bought a 2-bed bungalow for 225K. It's about 75 sq metres. We're extending it into a 3-bed house of 125 sq metres and converting the garage into a 6.3m x 4m granny…

Letting a flat - reasonable agency fee amount
I need to let my mother's retirement flat and one of the other residents said don't pay more than 1% agency management fee but that sounds ridiculously low. The first agency I contacted wants 10% of the rental fee and £150+ VAT to find the tennant. What's reasonable - it's in the East Midlands so not London prices!

Can we convert our mortgage to a BTL and then buy a new property?
Hello, I have no idea if this is possible but we've seen a house we love, but because it's so competitive to buy locally, we need to compete with cash buyers. We don't think we can sell our house quickly enough. We are not tied into our mortgage on our current property - approx. value 750k, with a mortgage of 310k, so were…

How much do you think you added to the value?
A recent post got me wondering. Was feeling rather envious of someone reckoning that a house might need ever so much money spent on it, ie around £15,000 to take from Utter Dump to Normal House category:( As I reckon I must have spent around £25,000 to date on the Utter Dump I recently bought. So state of play at beginning…

One or two properties?
I have savings of £70k to put down on a flat/house. I could go for a 40% deposit and get a nice 2 bedroom flat or 1 bedroom house to live in myself, they sell around here for £170-180k. Alternatively I could split the money and put down 25% each on two properties. That would mean roughly £140k each and means I could get a…

Halifax Mortgages?
Hi, I'm fairly new to this board - been lurking and trying to get a bit of advice, but I'm a little confused. Basically, me and my OH have started a mortgage application with Halifax - this was about 3 weeks ago now. Our valuation was done on Monday, and it was fine - came back exactly as expected. So I rang the branch,…

My House is for sale, can I use it's equity to buy a new house before sold?
As the per the title and I live in Scotland so rules may differ from England etc... I own a property and recently took a very small mortgage out to do some internal works to expand the bedroom space. We have decided to look for a bigger property now and have found our dream house which would require a large Mortgage once…

Buying offplan: builder refusing newbuy
I'm in the process of purchasing a property that is due for completion in 2015. I've had a mortgage offer approved, however as it is only valid for 6 months and this expires in September, I will need to reapply for a mortgage later in the year. I had been thinking about reapplying under the help to buy or newbuy scheme in…

Service charge questions
We are considering purchasing a six year old freehold property on an estate. When we viewed the estate agent said nothing about a service charge. It was only when a friend mentioned that there might be one that I called the agent and asked-their initial response was 'I doubt it -its a freehold', I asked if they could check…
