When completing my Tax Return it say I owe them £180 and do I want to pay it back now or taken from my PAYE next year. My logic says pay on next years PAYE,( spread over the year) is that the right assumption or would it be better to pay it all off now... I know its only a trivial issue but.... Thanks

Mrs D now wants to sell the house, which has a value in excess of £260k. This will be used to fund our move out of London to the…

I'm trying to point DS1 in the right direction: he was registered as self-employed with HMRC, then got a job and told them he wasn't s/e any more, and now no longer has a job and is once more s/e. (It's a moot point whether his s/e ever ended, but we'll leave that to one side for now as he has continued to do a tax return…

I completed this online self assessment thing recently due to receiving child benefit. Self Assessment - Payment on Account
Hi everyone. I understand (partially) how the Payment on Account (POA) system works - I pay next year's predicted tax liability in two parts the year before - but what I don't understand is how this is deducted the following year. I'm currently filling out this year's tax return online and I don't appear to have come…

I finished that specific job in March. I'm now starting a new job where I'm being paid through an umbrella company who need my P45. Do I send them…

Tax consequences on borrowing to invest
Can any of the tax experts give me a pointer on this? It seems I can borrow quite cheaply against my house and invest it for a much higher rate. Purely as an example, assume I can borrow at 2% and put it in a fixed deposit at 4% in my own name. What do I pay tax on: 1. 4%-2% = 2% 2. 4% because interest expense is not…
