Facing a tight budget
Hello all I have got myself in a pickle, and, after gentle encouragement from Moving Forwards & Skintyetagain on another thread, they think the kind people on here can help. This is nerve wracking but here is my situation: Technically still employed, on sick, MH issues but likely to be let go from employment. No more sick…

Zero hours contract and WTC
How does a zero hours contract affect WTC? I am about to be made redundant which means I will no longer be entitled to WTC which I have still been getting since I was laid off due to Covid-19. They may be able to give me a zero hours contract. How would this work regarding WTC? I'm guessing I would have to have worked at…

Text from HMRC
Do HMRC usually text people asking to talk about your total household income for the previous tax year? I had a text asking this. It tells me to use webchat to contact them. But I wouldn't have thought that information should be given through webchat. I am going to ring them but just thought I would ask if this is…

Anyway I'm well aware that getting a new job won't be easy, so when do I apply for universal credit, I will get furlough for this month and maybe next, but that's not definate. I…

When to claim
My OH has been on furlough for a while now and was approached by his employer regarding volunary redundancy - their business has been hit hard and they are cutting the staff right back unfortunately, offering VR to all employees. On the basis that he would have been made redundant anyway, he has accepted the VR and will…

I’m a live in carer and recently moved to Blackpool. The person who I care for receives ESA with severe disabilities and PIP. I applied for Housing Benefit for him and the Council contacted me to point out that as I had ticked the “mental issues” box, if I provided additional information he could be eligible for an…

Stopping carers allowance
How long does it take for carers to stop once you've informed them of any changes. I know it's paid on a Monday but if you cancel before this will you get the payment still and have to pay it back?? Also do they inform income support or would I need to do that? Thanks in advance

Tax refund saffecting Universal Credit Payments
I got a tax rebate letter and I logged online and got the below reason that I was getting a refund. . Does that mean my universal credit payment won't be affected? You did not get back the tax that HMRC owed you for the time you were not working or claiming state benefits.

New UC claim
So me and my partner are moving house in a month. We decided to preemptively apply for UC since we have the remaining rent already. We've been on HB and CTC for around 2 years so have had help with rent/living costs. My partner works full time with around £25k pre tax, and I am a stay at home mum for our son who's nearly…

Tax rebate whilst on Universal Credit
Hello everyone. I hope you’re all well. New here so apologies if this has been answered before. I’ll try and keep it short and clear. So recently, I lost my job and I have applied for UC with first payment due mid-July. I have just been informed I’m due a tax rebate of 1300GBP. I can claim online and have the 1300 within 5…

Migration from WTC to UC and savings
I have read that if you are migrated from WTC to UC, then if you have savings of over £16000, you are given a year's breathing space before that kicks in. But the article also said this had yet to be confirmed. Does anyone know if this is the case? TIA
