Aldi - 10 Piece Knife Block Set

Hi,

Aldi's selling 10 Piece Knife Block Set at £19.99 this Sunday. Has anyone bought it before ie. are they any good and is it value for money?

Our current set of knives are getting blunt. Need to sharpen them or buy new set. Alternatively, does anyone know where I can buy a good Knife sharpener.

Thanks.

  • Don't know if this helps, but I bought a set of steak cutlery from Aldi last year, consisting of four knives and forks, stainless steel, for £3.99. They're still as razor sharp as on the first day.

Hi Schamansky - Thanks for the reply. I'm not really looking for steak cutlery; more of knives for cutting and chopping.

    Cheers.
  • Take a close look at the knives. If it says "Solingen" somewhere on there, buy them. That's the German provenance for top notch knives and cutlery made of highest quality durable stainless steel.

I don't know if they are the same make but we bought a set of knives from Aldi 2 years ago and they are still going strong (and sharp). They were the ones which just came in a plastic box though no block.

Wow, that's the first case I come across of Mr Schwarz not being stingy. :p

Hi Schamansky & Grapey - Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, we had to go somewhere else on Sunday and hence couldn't go to Aldi to look at the knives. At least now I know I should look for "Solingen".

    Cheers.
