Simple knitted Aran waistcoat pattern please?

Hello,

DH gave DD his lovely Aran jumper that his Gran knitted for him when he was a teen. Sadly, as DD is living in a hut in the woods at the moment (long story!) the mice got to it and the body is severely ruined.

However I salvaged the yarn from the sleeves and would like to knit her a nice V neck waistcoat/vest.

However all the free patterns I found online are all either fancy or buttoned, or for men And I am not experienced enough to make one up, or to make adjustments on an existing pattern.

If you have a simple pattern (can cope with basic cabling) for a small Aran weight waistcoat, she is size 10/12, I would be most grateful. Goes without saying, more than happy to pay for photocopying and postage if sent via snail mail.

Thank you and Happy St. Stephen's Day!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Join ravelry.com, it's American but has loads of free patterns. Search for free vest (what they call waistcoat) free to join and a fantastic site.

Happy St Stephens Day Caterina.....have lots of patterns but not really fit at present to go rumaging through the boxes they are currently in, as 'wool room' is an extra bedroom! I will have a look tomorrow but in the meantime would recommend Ravelry.

    Hi Caterina,

I found these two sites - aran in a search bar usually produces intricate patterns but as far as I can remember as long as its double knitting these should be okay

    http://www.piece-by-piece.net/Knit/easy_knit_vest.htm
    http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/womens_vests.php

Not sure if either of these are of any use? First one is a pattern and second a list of free patterns.

    Hope it helps

Hello Caterina - Bonne Fête de St Etienne:-)

I'm on Lion Brand Yarn site often enough for patterns.
    http://cache.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/patternList.fcgi?tXX=1&d=Adult&s=Knit

Garment types are arranged alphabetically, so these are under 'V' for Vests:

Vests Cable Accent Vest Intermediate (Level 3) Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick® Small, Medium, Large, 1X, 2X

Vests Cable Panel Vest Intermediate (Level 3) Amazing®

    Vests Cable Scarf/Vest Intermediate (Level 3) Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick® One Size

Vests Cabled Teal Vest Intermediate (Level 3) LB Collection® Organic Wool Small, Medium, Large, 1X, 2X

    http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/L0634.html

Remember [a]US patterns will often use the term 'cable/d' rather than 'Aran', when you search for patterns, to convert US ply/needle/hook sizes to metric or imperial gauges.

    Hope it goes well.

This bit's irrelevant but I loved the SKEINZ shop when back in NZ earlier this year. From their site, I've just found two lovely links:

Look through them carefully as they sometimes have an error. I have learned to read the pattern thoroughly to check if it is all there. Look for the simplest then if you find a bit missing half way through you can probably work it out or do get back to me. You can send me a PM anytime if you get stuck. They do tend to be a little on the small side I don't know why American patterns are so small.

I have found with children's patters if it say age 1 it is up to age one where ours patterns would be 1 - 2 years. I think it is much the same with adult patterns.

I love knitting Arran cardis, they are so much warmer than the thin cotton rubbish that they try and pass off as warm woolens these days.
I plan on knitting all of my lot some for next Christmas. DS will be the worst one because he has really long arms and is really muscular, but as I enjoy doing it I don't mind in the least.
