Provident Loans
Hi everyone,
Looking for some help on what i should do please dont be nasty. Me and my partner have had provident loans for the past couple of years we have always managed to keep up with them but in march we needed some cash and the agent offerered us £200 pound each he said our weekly payment of £12 each would go to £9 each so we thought we may aswell if its cheaper he gave us the cash and pointed out were to sign on the papers which said £9 a week. Anyway the week after he came for the money and told us it wasnt £9 a week it was £12 + £9 and he had put it through as a new loan so we now had 2 loans each at £21 each a week altogether £42 a week. Are agent at the time was actually really nice and i dont think he meant to do it he used to get confused a lot anyway weve now got a new agent who i really dont like she is quite intimidating and moaned at me because i gave her £40 one week instead of £42 were both not working at the minute for personal reasons but its killing us weve been borrowing money for food because we need to pay provident and going without food and i cant keep doing it all i can afford is about £5 a week altogether ive emailed them 2 weeks ago but havent heard anything shes been a few times and brought her manager who is horrible aswell one week he came and i couldnt pay til the week after and he wasnt really taking no for an answer. I dont no what to do im paranoid everytime i hear the gate or see a car same colour as hers incase its her its making me ill but i dont want answer the door and them be funny with me they wont email me back and i do want to pay the £5 a week but not sure how they will take it anyone any advice ?

For food there are food banks so have a look and see if theres 1 near you. Now regards the loan can you not contact payplan/stepchange and get help with the loan ?0

Payplan, or one of the debt advice charities should advise you, but you need to send provident a letter (not email) to explain you are seeking advice. Say that you will not be making any payments at the door anymore and any future payments will be paid directly to provident online and ask them to stop the doorstop agent's visits.
If the situation is the same for your partner then he needs to send the same letter as well.
This is a template letter you could use as a base - but you will need to add to it to ask them to stop the agent's visits - https://www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/sampleletters/sole-letters/Pages/Hold-action-on-your-account-%28sole-name%29.aspx
If they visit in the meantime and you feel they will try to intimidate you then I would simply not open the door and tell them through it that you have written to provident and will not be making any more payments at the door.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
You need to be firm with the Provy agent and just pay what you can afford. The Provy have so many defaulters that they will agree to you paying a lesser amount as they're just glad you're paying something. My mother in law has been in this situation many times with them and if you are firm with them they will accept anything you can afford to pay. The agents are paid on a commission basis so ultimately anything you pay is better for them than you defaulting. Don't phone their head office, find out the telephone number for your agent's local office and call them as they are much more amenable than the head office regarding payment arrangements. Its amazing how these banks can't even do simple calculations correctly..............0

Hi lizi
Have you got any other debts besides these Provident loans? If so, please make sure you let Payplan know (or whoever you speak to).
It's easy to feel that you should pay the Provvy agent as much as possible as you're dealing with them face to face, but as Derwent says above you must be firm and stick to your guns.
Regards
Dennis
