Citizens Advice has issued some tips on the rules payday lending adverts are supposed to follow (opens pdf).

The Advertising Standards Authority has the power to ban bad adverts in any format (such as TV, radio, mobiles, billboards, magazine) but only if they are reported.

If you spot a misleading advert tell the ASA and let us know below.

EXTRA MSE HOMEWORK

Over at MSE Towers we get annoyed by the payday lenders using people dressed in cuddly outfits to try and tempt the younger generation over for a chat!

If you see this happening in your high street it’d be great if you could take a snap on your phone and email it to our campaigns team. There's a picture below from near our office in London.

One of our asks to government is to “Ban advertisements for these loans on children's television. This is an attempt to target hard-pressed families – even though lenders claim they are not their target market.” (see our other asks in our Payday loan guide). Street based marketing is no better!

There’s no time limit – so whenever/where ever you can please click away.

If you haven’t already, join the forum to reply. If you aren’t sure how it all works, read our New to Forum? Intro Guide.

Thanks,

MSE Wendy
