edited 16 July 2013 at 11:26AM in It's gone, but was it any good?
I've only seen this online (so I don't know what the quality is like) but to me it looks like a bargain :)

I imagine it just gives a very subtle glow and will make a nice ornamental item when unlit. From the pic I think it looks a lot more expensive than the £13.50 price tag - for ages I've been lusting after a similar-ish-looking one which John Lewis sells for £78 so I've plumped for this cheaper one instead!

I think 'subtle' is certainly the word, if the maximum bulb it can take is just 9W!

Yes, I wouldn't recommend 9W for a reading lamp or anything like that. It'll be perfect for my bedroom though or perhaps in my front room and for the vast majority of the time it'll just be a nice (unlit) ornament. I like having a mix of strong light and mood-lighting so the low wattage won't bother me....might save me buying so many candles! :)

In my quest to find the perfect (inexpensive) owl lamp I also found this Dunelm one for £12.99, if anyone prefers. It's a lot smaller than the HOF one and only gives a dappled light but can take a 30W bulb:

  • HOF says its ok for a children's room? they must have posh children as I would have though that it was too mature for a kids room

Dunhelm Mill's owl has more character and 30w might be bright enough for reading?
