Seriously look at your spends! I was horrified

Absolutely horrified to learn that since 1st Jan 2013 we have spent £600 on take out  i thought it was near £200 shows how much attention i was paying!!

Its certainly opened my eyes!! Just wanted to share that its worth tracking every spend. (i actually went through all the bank statements and paypal transactions for this)

Cant change the past but i will be seriously reconsidering takeouts!!

Wow that's a lot of food!

I haven't ordered a takeaway for ages, but I've spent a lot of money on iPads and phones that I don't really need!!

What sort of takeaway do you go for?

I try and 'only' get Dominos as I can pay through PayPal and its all ebay money so not 'real' money and I make sure I have a 50% off voucher.

I would imagine mines pretty high as well and its just me :-(

    This is great advice.

We worked out we were spending about a hundred a month on takeaway meals on fridays or saturdays.

We cut it down to ordering once a month - £20 only now.

My realisation of my overspend recently was related to taxis. I have spent over a thousand pounds on unnecessary taxi's since the new year began. A complete waste as I have always had a train pass to cover these journeys. And I could use a thousand pounds right now to help with my moving fund.

Bloody tragic, but don't beat yourself up about it, just use it to fuel and strengthen your resolve in future!

we used to regularly spend £30+ when ordering a Chinese for two - my bf is a '6ft tall growing' man (cough, growing outwards more like) so now we have a limit of £10 per take away - so if we want fish and chips we will share a fish, etc. We also don't get pizza that often - I genuinely prefer a £1.50 pizza from Iceland (Italian stonebaked spicy pepperoni...yum!). Nando's is another of our vices, so we are sure to use luncheon vouchers I get from doing surveys and utilise their loyalty card system.

With 6 of us, and everyone eating adult portions, we have cut this one way back. We used to get them once a fortnight years ago when we were both out working. Now a chinese on a big birthday like 18th, 21st, 40th, 50th and on all other birthdays where we used to do that I just make the birthday persons favourite dinner and we have dessert. When we have been away all day and I'm tempted, we just come home and chop potatoes into small little pieces and they're ready in 20 minutes. It takes a bit more resolve.I also peel potatoes before we leave the house on days like this so the main work is done. Even if we are visiting relatives and get fed I can change the water covering the potatoes and use them the following day instead. And I don't have starving little people pulling at my leg when I'm trying to cook any more. Also knowing we won't have enough money for food the rest of the week is a great incentive :rotfl:
A chinese for 6 of us - we share 3 or 4 dishes between us comes to around £25.
When the kids were younger I used to buy the prawn crackers in a box at the supermarket and when hubby went to collect the take away I put the deep fat fryer on and we cooked the prawn crackers at home. Saved a few pounds that way.

You could always buy pizza bases, (2 for £1 in Sainsbury and Morrisons). That way you could put on the toppings you want, cook and enjoy. Hell of a lot cheaper and very quick to do. My boys love these pizzas far more than a shop bought or domino's.

We buy a curry meal deal from Sainsbury, and tend to have it on a Fri night, costs under a tenner, loads of food and really tasty. Heat up,eat and saves a fortune. Also earn Necter points on it as bought in shop.

We found our original favorite take away had become more expensive and they were giving you less in their comb starters. Also it didn't taste as it use too.

Edit: I probably should of said, I can't use my arms very well due to spinal compression so can't make the dough from scratch but that would be even cheaper.
