Getting There!

I feel like the light at the end of the tunnel is not only on, it's LED and pulsing!

I've been on a DMP with CCCS (StepChange) for coming up on 3yrs and at the start, while I felt relief that I was finally taking my head out of the sand after a DECADE of abusing credit and getting in deeper and deeper, it did seem like being dept free was a long way off. My starting point was the price of a good lunch short of £29k and I'd nothing to show for it (when I told my husband he couldn't understand what it had gone on either but was very supportive once it sank in).

Today I logged into my DMP to update my Barclaycard statement and I can not describe the absolute joy I felt at seeing 2 of my 7 creditors have now been paid in full!
So that's two gorgeous Account Balance £0.00 lines on my statement and a third one isn't too far off.
12 more payments and I'll be debt free for the first time since the new millenium.

My credit score is shagged obviously and I've lost count of how many defaults I have on my file but as I never plan on having credit again, I don't care. Banks have made enough out of me and my stupidity :D

So for all those just starting out and it all feels a bit like an endless round of phone calls, letters, payments, more calls, more letters and a seemingly insurmountable balance to pay, keep at it, it's worth it when the end is in sight. :j

  • It's just lovely to see those 0.00 balances!

I'm not sure why the number of creditors falling makes it even better as i still owe nearly £8k, but it does - I feel a celebratory glass of cheap wine coming up :rotfl: :j

    Well done :)

Im like that though, Love seeing another creditor drop off my CCCS statement! Been with them for 6 yrs 3 months and hoping to sort the rest out in 4 more months, but it is due to end in Oct naturally. I have 3 of my 6 naturally being paid off by the end of May, its just my bigger Barclaycard holding me back, but seeing 6 creditors rather than 12 is great and these still add up a little too lol

Good luck for the end :) Im like you, have been in debt for the past 12 yrs, ever since i was old enough to get credit, i did and i abused it! But sad thing is, i now look back and thing with the thousands of ££s i have used, abused and paid I could of taken my kids to Florida 3 or 4 times over :( But that will be my aim when im debt free, to take the kids there even if it means eldest will be 12-13 lol

Have you any aim once you are debt free?
  • well done it gives those of us still at the early stages hope of things to come

  • Congratulations and well done.

Are you verfiying the details with your own statements and not just relying on SC?

  • Well done on such a milestone, it certainly give hope to us on what seems to be a long slog and best wishes in clearing the other creditors as soon as possible

Wisdom comes from experience. Experience is often a result of lack of wisdom.

I'm going to become a saver for the first time since primary school! i'm used to a big lump of my wages going on my DMP so if I can even save half that each month then it should build up a decent nest egg in time.

First of all though, I think I owe my lovely husband a nice present for being such a star during all this!

    Thank you all!

I update my debts as I receive statements though recently I've had to start chasing some creditors up for statements - never thought i'd see the day when I'd be phoning them of my own free will! :)
