I tried to order one and right at the very end of the process, after you have keyed in credit card details, mailing address etc. VAT is added to the cost, making this no cheaper than anywhere else!!!!!!!!!!!0

We had an earlier version Sony e-book reader & my son loved it. But the screen went wonky & Sony charged £35 just to LOOK at it - and then sent us a repair estimate that was more than the cost of buying a new one. We got another on e-bay and it worked fine for a year or so - then the screen went wonky.
By contrast, I got a Kindle earlier this year & the screen went wonky. I called Amazon & explained the problem & they had a replacement Kindle with me the next day, before I'd even returned the faulty one.
The Sony ones may be nice, but I'd never buy another - Amazon win hands down on service. My son's getting a Kindle for Xmas.0 -

Something similar happened to my father's Sony e-reader. Since it was still within warranty, we did manage to get Sony to look at it without paying their extortionate charges. It turned out that the problem was caused by a memory card that had got corrupted, and so not really Sony's fault.
Anyway, try replacing the memory card and see if that resolves the problem.0 -

this is WRONG. i just tried, the total is given before you enter your credit card details and then you confirm. the Book Depository don't add VAT after you enter your credit card details and I'm sure it would be illegal if it said "total=x", you enter credit card details, and then it charges you "x+vat"
actually I've never heard about the book depository adding VAT to any of the prices displayed on the website, anyone else?0 -
thanks for the comments about Sony's service, just hoping I don't have problems with mine0
